Last season was bad, really bad. It was rough watching that underachieving bullshit all last year. Since I know over the last two years that you all have cared about Volunteer football soooo much, I decided to make a thread to follow the course of the season.
The schedule is as rough as ever this year, with a lot of SEC teams predicting to be "peaking" or putting it together this year. Here are my initial (May) thoughts:
California Knoxville, Tenn. - very tough opener.. I call a very very close W Air Force Knoxville, Tenn. - W Florida Knoxville, Tenn. - L Marshall (Homecoming) Knoxville, Tenn. - W Memphis Memphis, Tenn. - W Georgia Athens, Ga. - L Alabama Knoxville, Tenn. - W South Carolina Columbia, S.C. - another close one... L LSU Knoxville, Tenn. - L Arkansas Fayetteville, Ark. - W Vanderbilt Nashville, Tenn. - W (this wont happen again, not with SuperCutler gone) Kentucky Knoxville, Tenn. - W

Yeah, but didn't they hire Mustain's high school coach as thier offensive coordinator (In order to further coerce Mustain into going there)?
Haha, that should work wonders. That's right in line with making Reggie Herring the highest paid assistant in NCAA history. GG Nutt

The SEC has had a number of strong teams and champions, but the ACC has decidedly turned the tide the last few years. The ACC had 3 teams in the Final Four this year. 5/23/2006 9:23:03 AM |
packboozie All American 17452 Posts user info edit post |
True this past year it was better, but historically it hasn't been.
Hell if it wasn't for the damn committee, UT would have been a #1 seed and not a #2 playing the top team UNC and there would have been 2 SEC teams and 2 ACC teams in the Final Four.
UT got robbed on that deal. 5/23/2006 9:29:08 AM |

^^ no, has NOTHING to do with the rest of the schedule. Its just a home game, usually the easiest one on the schedule that a lot of alumnai come back to... I dont know if I would have Marshall as the worst... Kentucky might be worse, Vandy too now that Buttler is gone 5/23/2006 11:21:12 AM |

careful with statements like that... the SEC hasnt' been as tough as people think is has for hte past few years, and has mostly been getting by on reputation... it's basically been the equal to the Big 12, Big 10, and even at some points the equal to the ACC...
UT plays 9 of their games inside the state of Tennessee... there has to be some kind of rule against that 5/23/2006 11:26:02 AM |
Jaybee1200 Suspended 56200 Posts user info edit post |
haha, shhh. After last years away schedule, I'll take it.
and the more I think about it the more I am worried about Cal. They have the perfect type of system to beat TN, and they are loaded on offense. If they get some quick TDs there is no way we could catch up. And based on last years performance they will probably be ranked higher going into the game.

Honestly, I do not think that UT will even be ranked in the preseason. And, after that fucking pittiful performance last year, they don't deserve to be ranked until they win a few this year. 5/23/2006 2:11:46 PM |

whatever... another SEC fan who cant' handle the fact that his conference isn't what it used to be...
it's not really the SEC East's fault... other than Vandy and Kentucky the SEC East is probably tied with the Big 12 South for the hardest division in college football... but the West struggles... sure they have LSU, but Alabama, Auburn, and Arkansas have run hot and cold for the last 5 years or so... 2 years ago it was possibly the second worst division in college football (but so much attention was focused on the Big 12 North that people ignored the SEC West)
basically, the SEC is running on reputation and history, and the strength of Tenn/UF/UGAs yearly matchups... 5/23/2006 2:26:01 PM |
