Well I was a Grade-A moron and it almost cost me $270....

While back I got a phone call from some company offering a free trip and accomodations to wherever I want if I try their new service for free. This is fine, except the asked for my BANK ACCOUNT number so they could withdraw funds for the service if I kept it. I was in a rush, getting my car fixed, so like a good little fucktard I give it to them.

Yeah, so that was a mistake.

Lo and behold a short time later I randomly check through my bank account. Sure enough some no-name company named "Floridaway" has been down for a $149 check that I supposedly sent to them a month ago. Bullshit, the check of course isn't mine, given I could get an electronic image from Wchovia's online banking.

Worse however was that $149 check came between paychecks, so my bank account was pretty low. Long story short, I had 4 overdrafts worth another $120 bucks. Oh... that's just low....

I call Wachovia immediately. They off course told me giving the back # was dumb and that in future I shouldn't do that. However, not only did they say they could refund the money (overdrafts included), but they'd also happily close my account and send me new checks so that the company didn't pull the same shit twice.

So, I = dumb, Wachovia = awesome. Thank God they're prepared to deal with this kind of bullshit.

I have free checking/free atm withdrawals/free online banking... maybe it sucks if you do more advanced stuff (loans, IRAs, etc.)?
