Where do ya'll take your bikes (or cars) to find some good curvy roads? I know there isn't anything around here like you find everywhere in the mountains, but there has got to be some stuff around here. I searched, found an old thread that talked about around sharon harris. Got any more? Thanks. 5/29/2006 12:37:37 AM |

I am not looking for high speeds. I have a Honda 919 and I am looking for some roads that I can lean it over on. 5/29/2006 2:31:44 PM |

There's some sick roads up in chapel hill. The Honda's riding chapter goes out every tuesday and rides around there. Some nice twisties on their route. But there isn't much good roads around raleigh. Best bet if you want curves, on and off ramps on the beltline are fun too. 5/29/2006 2:35:29 PM |

This is a fun route to ride. Lots of twists and mostly back roads. If you are coming from campus, it'll take about 1.5-2 hours to ride.

The only road I've ever ridden that gave you many chances to lean it over at anywhere NEAR the posted limit is Deal's Gap (and even then, you'll be speeding a lot if you really wanna tear it up).
I'd say a race-replica sportbike will generally hang 35-mph curves at 100-110 mph. Your 919 will have less cornering clearance, but you still will generally be tearing the posted limit all to pieces by the time you achieve any significant lean angle.
_________________________________ we used to head down to Johnston County...lots of twisty backroads down there.
and remember, there's more to being fast than big lean angles (although that's the first big obstacle to overcome, i guess)5/30/2006 1:59:46 AM |

I pity you guys...I have great roads 5 minutes from my apartment I think I'd go nuts living out of the mountains now!
But seriously jgibelttil, you need to make a trip up here sometime, I'll show you some awesome roads. I'm almost to the point where I'm dragging knees on some of the roads around here. Give me another month of riding US-421 four or five times a week and I'll have it down. 5/30/2006 10:00:04 AM |
