ATI FUCKING SUCKS

ANY COMPANY THAT WOULD NEED TO COMPENSATE FOR SHITTY HARDWARE DESIGN BY WRITING A "VPU RECOVER" INTO THE DRIVER NEEDS TO BE PUNISHED.

okay. I'm done.

Check out some competing nVidia boards. Just be sure to read the reviews on any particular card manufacturer.

I have dealt with this problem (among a few others) with various ATI cards. In the cases where this happened, the cards themselves were dead. The only real problems I have seen with nVidia have been driver-related and changing the driver version fixed the problem.

Although they are not "performance" GPUs I have had pretty good luck with Matrox, integrated Intel and VIA chipsets.

there could be more goin on than just the video card, man... Might have a bad seating of the card, might have a driver conflict, might have old drivers still muckin up the works, might have a shitty mobo, might have a power problem.

Check all the simple things before you go out and get a new card.
