I'm going there for a business trip next month and I'll be there for like 4 days, 2 of which I have nothing to do...

What's cool in Pittsburgh?

i went to see a friend who lived there so she knew all the cool places to go, but these were my three faves.

Take the Incline at night so you can see the whole city. It's really cool. you can see all the stadiums from there and you're looking into downtown.

Have lunch at Primanti Brother's downtown...best damn sandwich I've ever had. They serve it on wax paper (no plates) with the fries and coleslaw on the sandwich...deeeeelish. (you can say no coleslaw if that's not your thing)

There were outdoor shops, restaurants and movie theatre down the river from downtown but I can't remember the name (which of course doesn't help)...Pittsburgh doesn't have sales tax so if you wanna buy clothes, buy them while you're there.

Pittsburgh is great. You should climb that church tower thing on the UPitt campus. CMU is also worth a walking tour.

There is nothing cool in pittsburgh. Unless you include the inbreeding and other degenerate human beings that originate from this piece of shit city.

The Incline is cool, take in a Pirates game if they are in town. Goto Pitt and Carnegie-Mellon. Pittsburgh is a cool town but drink bottled water because the water isn't good there IMO.

Add some more tips because in 3 weeks I'll be living 3 hours away from there and will hit it up for some weekends

And yeah, PA has no sales tax on clothes throughout the state. Does Pittsburgh itself have no sales tax on anything?

if for some reason ^^ you end up in Clarion since you're moving the PA and all...there's a place/hot dog stand there that's only open at night, only during the late hours of the night, b/c there's nothing to do but drink there

get the taco dog

and don't piss the guy off, he's like the soup nazi for hot dogs

I hear the Black Student Union at Duquesne is a pretty good time. Pretty similar to a NC State tailgate from what I read.

w00t, I'll be there too in a week. Staying for a few months.

Still, it will be my first time going there... but it sounds like a cool place. More interesting than Raleigh probably.

I was born and raised there (Crafton, then Bethel Park), had to leave because of lack of job ops in my field. Love to visit, though. It kinda sucked when I was growing up, but since there's been redevelopment and young people are actually staying, it's progressively gotten better as I've grown up.

All that has been mentioned is good in the Downtown area, particularly the Strip District Primanti's and the Warhol Museum.

To add:
If you want crap to do that is kinda yuppie-ish, hit up the Homestead Waterfront. It's newly redeveloped.

For the more urban, artsy, bar hopping destination, check out the South Side (across the Mon from Duquesne). A lot of little boutiques, and different styles to eat, lots of different young people to see. Traffic on Fri and Sat. nights can be a bitch.

Squirrel Hill is good for Jewish culture and international food.

For recreation, go up the rivers to do fishing or boating, and there's a network of newer trails for walking and hiking along the riverfronts. Also the Carnegie Museums and the Warhol Museum.

Station Square and the Strip are the the best I'd say for clubbing. Matrix can be overrun by college students from Pitt and other colleges, though. The Strip is mad busy on Sat. mornings because of the markets.

Unique things you'll find in the Burgh:
a shit ton of bridges
Mt. Washington (of course)
Getting awesomely lost
Lots of ethnic food

my girlfriend lives on the southside of pittsburgh and I think it's pretty fucking cool. bars everywhere, and lots of shit to do. plus, southside works is right down the street and has tons of places to shop and eat.

go to primanti bros or fatheads for a sandwich, and check out the warhol if you get a chance. other than that, just don't talk shit about the steelers. seriously. they're MORE than obsessed. They'll fucking kill ya.

Alright folks, need some serious help here:

Where's the best restaraunt around Pittsburgh (read: NOT BAR, I'll be w/ the lady and will be hungry for some good eats) to watch the NCSU/FSU game next Thursday night?

Hi-def is definitely a plus.

Not too picky, I'll be at 4770 Steubenville Pike, like 6 miles from downtown & will have my own car, so transportation's not an issue.

With other State fans would be huge! doesn't seem to be an NCSU Alumni club in Pitt, though.
