so i traveled all week and was in the airports picking up a random pc-pc wireless connection and free airport Wi-Fi. now my laptop is all kinds of screwed up. pages keep loading and then reloading with pop u type things only minus the option to lose them, explorer keeps shutting down and say it was due to an "add-on" called horedata.dll. what is this "add on"? does it belong on my notebook? i have not had an issue with this laptop since i bought it in august and all of a sudden it is going haywire. dumb as me using it in the airport with a disable firewall i guess. just did a virus scan and all of a sudden tons of stuff is popping up. i have never had this problem before and it is really screwing up my computer. from what the macafee site says none of this stuff is a big deal so why is everything so messed up? thanks and the search is still going so the list might build.

Here's the removal instructions. It should fix the horedata problem, but there could very well be a lot more wrong:

Way to be a dick
I was in quite a few airports over Easter break and while using the ***FREE*** Wi-Fi (read: wi-fi installed in the airport specifically for the complimentary use by those waiting in the terminals, in other words, not stolen internet) also kept picking up these random pc-pc wireless connections and it wasn't just in one airport, it was in almost all of them and a time or two the computer would connect to it by default before I realized what it was doing.....luckily I don't seem to have any problems as a result of it but I'm glad you were picking them up too, I thought my computer was losing it....still have no idea what they were though6/1/2006 3:34:03 AM |

If you have a company laptop, your IT person should be shot for not locking that thing down.
As has been said, there could be numerous problems with it. Run HiJack this, Spyboy S&D, and AdAware and report back to us. 6/1/2006 6:18:38 AM |

In the future, you may want to turn off the option to automatically connect to non-preferred networks. That way you won't connect to a network you don't want to. 6/1/2006 8:58:57 AM |

i am trying to do some of this stuff you guys are recomending however i am unable to finish. everytime i log online and try to search or access a web site it keeps trying to redirect me to a new page. i have had to hit the "stop" button 4 times already just to type this reply. even when i can access what i need i will get booted of the internet. i have installed and run the "anti-spy" off my yahoo toolbar and it is scanning now. will this fix anything? or is it just yahoo being yahoo andpretending to do great things? 6/1/2006 11:35:58 AM |

Access the internet on another computer then. Print or read instructions on that computer instead. If there's a downloadable tool to fix it, download it on a thumb drive and get it to your computer that way. 6/1/2006 12:08:56 PM |

Go to the damn link I sent you. It specifically outlines the process to remove Horedota.dll from your system.
Go to another computer and print out the page. 6/1/2006 12:13:29 PM |
