As divorce tears at the fabric of our society and is in violation of the God's Law, it is hereby resolved that couples who enter into the of marriage, shall not be allowed to divorced.

Because the 10 Commandments are the basis of our laws and the Bible is the foundation of our nation, adultery will be punished by stoning in the public square.

its kind of funny that bush wants this amendment, but bush and his wife are divorced, whereas kerry has never been remarried and clinton has never had extramarital affairs

Also, make it illegal for sterile people to marry.

i tend to think i would have suffered more if i'd have had to hear my parents yelling at each other all the time...

of course, my dad just moved across town (small town), and was always around growing up, so i don't know if i had a typical divorced kid's experience

i'm not saying all divorced kids would've been better off had their parents stayed together

i'm just saying that divorce does take a toll on lots of kids

i would think that 2 people who hated each other and were forced to live together would be worse for the kids.

We'll start enforcing, "Honor your mother and father" next. We'll make sure you visit or call your parents at least once a week.

The gov't will be able to tell because THEY'RE WIRETAPPING YOU!

alright, let's see if we can salvage this thread

i mean, we get it. you don't like the religious right. most of us don't. the gay marriage amendment is stupid. it's already being discussed in another thread (but mostly in terms of why it's coming up again, because few, if any, people are arguing that it's a good idea)

i love how people make fun of me when they dont have shit to say to contradict my point

they've got about as much centralized thought as the democrats, who can only share one common thought amongst the party: "bush is bad!!!"

when i ride the bus in seattle, there's usually always someone who's either retarded, insane, or drunk -- loudly rambling on and on about some stupid bullshit.

nobody ever bothers saying shit to contradict them, either.

in other words, you're kinda like that Gary the Preacher guy. theres always some fool who stands around arguing with him, trying to look clever in front of the crowd.

but the rest of the people walk on by with just a brief: " "

So then you agree with granting marriage rights to homosexual couples?

Back to my original point, 2 years ago, Bush himself stated in his Saturday radio address:

Quote :
" A great deal is at stake in this matter. The union of a man and woman in marriage is the most enduring and important human institution, and the law can teach respect or disrespect for that institution. If our laws teach that marriage is the sacred commitment of a man and a woman, the basis of an orderly society, and the defining promise of a life, that strengthens the institution of marriage."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/07/20040710.html

Divorce undermines the basis of an orderly society.

Quote :
"If our laws teach that marriage is the sacred commitment of a man and a woman, the basis of an orderly society, and the defining promise of a life, that strengthens the institution of marriage."

Right there he's saying that sterile couples that marry, weaken the institution of marriage and contributes to the destruction of our society.

Then this past week's radio address:

Quote :
"Marriage is the most enduring and important human institution, honored and encouraged in all cultures and by every religious faith. Ages of experience have taught us that the commitment of a husband and a wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society. Marriage cannot be cut off from its cultural, religious, and natural roots without weakening this good influence on society. Government, by recognizing and protecting marriage, serves the interests of all."

See. He restates the importance of protecting marriage. Divorce should be illegal.

Personally, I don't really care to see them married. I do support civil unions or whatever you want to call it, which is basically a nominal distinction (which is more or less all I want). I'm down with them having the same consideration under the tax code (which ought to be totally overhauled, but that's another story). I'm down with them being able to make medical decisions for each other if one is incapacitated, etc.

and regardless of all that, passing a bill outlawing gay marriage is one thing. Amending the Constitution is going way overboard as far as I'm concerned, regardless of what your thoughts on the matter are. Furthermore, it's a waste of time and squandering of political capital, ultimately being a disservice to those who are pushing for it.

so my comment that bush is married, kerry is divorced and remarried and clinton had extramarital affairs is not true? is it retarded, insane or drunk? or are you just anti-bush regardless of the topic

you want us to contradict or argue with this statement?

it has no bearing on any logical discussion of this topic

so, thats why it is easy to dismiss it and move along

P.S. you were the first person in the thread to mention Bush

why does everyone refuse to make any posts regarding president bush and his marriage or former president clinton and his marriage? i mean, the thread is about marriage and divorce...i dont know why people cant even comment on what i said...all they do is attack me personally...hell Woodfoot, all you did in the past 3 posts is try to convince me that me talking about bush, clinton and kerry's marriages or divorces is irrelevant to the topic which it clearly isnt...i mean normally people jump at the chance to talk about bush...why the hesitation?

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like apple-sauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does.
