some of the scoring is bs, like if your balance is close to your limit then it knocks your score down badly

that's not BS unless you have one of the few citibank cards that don't report your revolving limit - instead report the amount you owe as your limit and thus it appears maxed out

when i ran my credit report, it only showed dings that were 30 / 90 / >90 days late. if you're a few days late they don't care

that's not necessarily BS

and it doesn't matter anyway, because you don't make the rules, and it is what it is

how do you figure?

my credit cards make me money. no fees and 1% rebates (AND 5% on gas, food, and medicine). having a bunch of unused credit also allows me to maintain less on hand in cash, which in turn allows me to invest more.

just don't carry a balance. nothing wrong the the card. that's the same attitude of people blaming guns for dumbasses shooting people.

Chase Rewards, and then don't carry a balance.

1% rebate, 5% on gas/food/medications

Surprisingly, there hasn't been an influx of misinformation yet (a first for a TWW financial/credit thread?), but in the meantime, here's some nice, quick articles if you have question about your score or how they work

There was something weird on my report. Two chase credit cards one for $2500 and one for $500 are opened on my file. There is no balance on either one opened on 03/2006 the other 11/2003. What should I do about this and is this a big problem

btw how do you get the actual score, i did not see an option to see a score unless you paid $5 to have them ship it to you.

^That's not your actual fico score.

The only way to get your fico is to buy it from myfico.com

^^^^That's actually really really good, isn't it?

And my score sucks because a) I changed banks and closed some credit cards I'd had since the dawn of time and b) balances were too high on my current cards.

BUT time goes on so my credit should naturally inflate if I continue to behave, and I just upped the limit on my ccs so they went from 80% full to < 30% full
