Casing on my key came off and i cant get it to start, what security feature needs to be checked so it can start plz

the casing for the key probably has a chip in it that transmits an encrypted code that lets the car start. either get the spare key or go to the dealer and get a new one and have the car coded to the key, or key coded to the car, depending on what type of system it may have.
