I've noticed this more and more recently. I'm hungry all the freakin time! Anybody have suggestions on what to do?

My diet usually consists of breakfast, lunch, & dinner weekdays, and usually just lunch, dinner, and something late night (maybe) on weekends.

My breakfast is usually a bowl of cereal, an English Muffin, and 2 sausage links. I'm thinking of adding blueberries and strawberries as a late morning snack.

Lunch is usually an apple and a large sandwich with ham, cheese, lettuce, and onion on a roll.

Dinner is usually 1/2-1 lb of meat, large portion of pasta or rice, and a few servings of vegetables.

As far as my physical activities, I usually go to the gym 2-3 times a week and walk on average around 2 miles a day (not all at once, but from walking from place to place).

Any suggestions? I'm happy with my weight, and its not increasing, but I hate being hungry all the time. Could changing my diet at all help? I'll admit that I'm a carb freak, but I'm trying to eat more meat and less carbs. Also I never (hardly ever) eat any sweets or have dessert. I also don't eat snacks like crackers, etc. Although sometimes I do eat a donut or bagel in the morning at work if someone brought some in. My roommate suggested maybe adding a whey protein shake in the morning.

Suggestions, comments?

If you're really concerned why not go talk to your doctor? It's probably nothing really serious. Are you really hungry, or is it just cravings because you're bored?

^I've thought about that....b/c work has been slow recently. But I was still hungry a lot on my vacation, so I don't think its boredom.

I've noticed that I have a big problem with hunger on Monday and sometimes on Tuesday. I theorize that it takes a couple of days to re-adjust to my office job after being extremely active and taking in more calories over the weekend.

drink shite loads of water, sometimes hunger is used as a mask that you are actually thirsty

^^I do drink shitloads of water, but it doesn't help. I've actually cut back a little bit, b/c it bothers me when I have to pee every 45 minutes, plus I hate getting up in the middle of the night to pee.

^I try, but its a pain in the ass sometimes, and when I have done it, it doesn't help too much.

I've noticed this same thing over the past six months or so.. I've gone to the Doctor actually and been checked for parasites - pretty clean slate. On average I'm consuming about 4000-5000 calories a day. Only gained about five pounds in those six months though and that's all been muscle mass. Just treat it as an oppourtunity to pack on some muscle - goto the gym and do about three different lifts for a general area four times a week. I think I've put on more muscle in that six month period than at any other point when I was actually trying to gain mass.

I'm only 23 so my Doctor suspected it was simply a minor "growth spurt" similiar to those you had as a kid.. even at 25 that is still probably the case.

Protein shakes fill me up pretty good...so that could be an option. Like taking one after your breakfast or lunch.

I would also try and suggest snacking on something during the day that's healthy and filling. Try to find a good protein bar that you like.

Go see a doctor ... my guess (and I could be completely wrong) is that it's not a single factor, but a combination of things.

Chewing gum and drinking coffee are two things I know work as temporary sources of relief for me.

Maybe you need more fiber to fill up. Add oatmeal at breakfast and change your bread/pasta to whole wheat.

if you are hungry in the morning eat oatmeal, it takes longer to breakdown so you can last until lunch alot easier

i used to only eat cereal in the morning, and by 9-10 i was starving! but with oatmeal i can easily last until 11 or 12

Someone beat me to it, do exactly as she says

I can't switch to wheat bread/pasta. My body doesn't digest it well and bad things happen. Additionally, I don't like the taste of either b/c I have had them in the past.

bananas, I usually take 2 with me to work and that along with a protein shake [no homo] makes a pretty good filling snack

Tke- there is one brand of whole wheat that is significantly better than the rest. I am pretty sure its barrillo

If whole wheat makes you ill , you could be allergic to wheat. if thats the case, any wheat will do long term digestive damage.

It also could be that you are reacting because of lack of fiber.

Jenn, I'm allergic to wheat, and yes anything with wheat in it affects me. What more can I say?

Add a few more carbs if nothing else seems to help- its something for your body to work on a little harder until your next snack or meal.

definitely try to add more fiber, and I would add more protein as well. Protein helps fill you up and lasts longer than starches.

Fiber always fills me up really well, I switched to whole wheat pasta/bread and feel much less hungry as a result. Since you can't have wheat, you could try other sources of fiber like green veggies, oatmeal, and brown rice.

It could be any new medications. Some can make you hungry all the time, and it might not be evident from the labeling. Also, eating more meat could help. Protein, like a steak or something will stay in your stomach longer to aid in digestion versus like a piece of bread. Stuff in your stomach = full.

*as PackMan said*

You should be eating at least SIX meals a day if you are hungry.

Instead of eating everything you have for breakfast, eat only 1/2 that and save the rest for 10:30-11 a.m.
Same for lunch and especially dinner.

You are dropping your metabolism throughout the day, that's why you are getting hungry.
If you were keeping your blood sugar and metabolism up (by eating throughout the day) then you would feel fuller.

Milk and peanut butter are also very good comments. If you aren't doing so already, you should ADD A VITAMIN (if you're body is looking for nutrients)

By the way, are you chewing ice?
