Ozzie Guillen is such a tool.
Quote : | "Report: Rookie to be demoted for missing Blalock ESPN.com news services
White Sox rookie pitcher Sean Tracey got into hot water with his manager Ozzie Guillen -- for getting an out.
Tracey was summoned to start the seventh inning and got Hank Blalock to ground out, but getting an out might not have been the reason Tracey was brought into the game. White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski was hit by two pitches in the game and a source told the Chicago Sun-Times that Tracey was told to hit Blalock as retaliation. Tracey threw two inside pitches to Blalock before getting him to ground out.
After getting the out, Tracey was removed from the game. Guillen slammed a water bottle to the ground when Blalock grounded out and the manager then brought Agustin Montero into pitch. Guillen was then seen in the dugout barking at Tracey, who pulled the collar of his jersey over his head.
Guillen didn't address why he screamed at Tracey and had a different explanation why he took the rookie out of the game.
"I tried to get Montero ready [to face Blalock] and wasn't able to. It was a little late," Guillen explained. "It was my mistake. I didn't get him up quick enough. I didn't want Tracey in that situation."
Tracey refused comment.
A source told the Sun-Times that Tracey was informed he was being demoted to Triple-A after the game. "Ozzie went nuts,'' one source told the newspaper.
Pierzynski was hit by pitches his first two at-bats, prompting home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi to issue warnings to both benches in the fourth.
"I don't know what the deal was. He had pretty good control and then he runs two first pitches in on me," Pierzynski said. `Why did he do it? You're going to have to ask him. I faced him maybe two times in the National League."
Vicente Padilla didn't comment after the game. " |

that's definitely not cool. I hope the best for that kid...
That situation is almost as bad as it was during the strike. You had scabs crossing the line to play. Managers were bringing up minor league kids to play. What do you do? If you have a real shot at a MLB career, you don't want to piss off the players union or the other players. They'd make life hell for you. But what if you were that guy who probably would never make it. That's an easy decision then, go play in the bigs...
but for the other role... man, do you tell the manager no and face that retribution, or tell the manager yes and piss off the union/players? 6/15/2006 11:48:23 AM |

fuck that . I'm with ozzie ... you've got to look out for your teammates. same with hitting in hockey. your teammate gets railroaded, you catch the guy the next time he's not lookign and send a message.
fighting is illegal and gets you suspended and fined... hitting batters to a point is not
this pc bullshit is why children shoot their parents. the kid got put in to protect his catcher. and basically spit in his face by not doing so.

Haha, thank you for illustrating the slippery slope that I was referring to. Where do you want to draw the line then? Most of these guys have enough control to hit a guy in the back 50 times out 50 if that is what they are trying to do. But what if they aren't even trying to hit them. What if they are trying to brush them back, and being really liberal with their placement. The ball gets loose and before you know it, a kid is fucked for life. So where do you draw the line? Generally speaking, these guys can govern themselves, and it has been that way for many years. But all it takes is for one ref being a little bit lax with the enforcement, and one guy being a little bit too liberal for an accident to happen. Using beaning people with the ball as a weapon or strategy in the game should really have no place in the sport. How is this any different than tackling at the knees? Why not let this be used as a "weapon/strategy" such that the offense can't pass block as much for fear they will get their knees blown up?

if the guy gets "loose" well the he's fucked. you're not paid to be in the majors to be "loose"
if he fucks up and hits someone in the head. well have some fucking responsibility. it's not the baseballs fault. hes' the dumbass that threw it in the vacinity of his head.
you can hit someone in the ass and say just as much as the shoulder etc. every baseball person knows when a hit was intentional because it is infact part of the game.
we dont call vehiclular manslaughter an "accident" because you didnt mean to do it.
Quote : | "How is this any different than tackling at the knees?" |
because chopping is done maliciously with the intent to put people out of games. hitting people in the shoulder is done to tell cocksuckers to stop hitting your teammates.
if you have a life threatening injury from getting hit in the arm with a baseball ... you're too fucking frail and you need to invest in badmitten

I know exactly what a slippery slope is, thanks much. And again, here we are. It's ok for a guy to throw heaters at his shoulder/arm area, but that surely isn't close to his brain or face or anything like that.
Quote : | "2. as stated, the guy prolly couldn't throw close to 100" |
This is irrelevant and was hyperbole on my part, 90mph can probably do plenty of damange too.
Quote : | "3. he surely wasn't going to throw at the head" |
Funny you mention me not knowing slippery slope, and you start mentioning anecdotal cases after I already stated "where do you draw the line"?
Heck, the best argument that can be used against my viewpoint of "beaning as a strategy" is that historically the game has regulated itself, with only one player dieing from getting hit. But like I said, how is killing a guy much different from chopping at the knees, blocks in the back, and other things that are banned in football, a much more violent sport?6/15/2006 11:53:15 PM |

Wow, all of this discussion about America and blah blah blah, and the real solution to issues like these is as simple as eliminating the DH. National league pitchers know without a doubt they will get drilled if they pull that stuff, and that's where the thinking ends, period. Remember when Clemmons faced the music and the pitcher threw it behind him, and everyone (including Clemmons) knew what it was coming.
Oh And Ozzie definitely needs to get suspended 3 games for such an incident to be visible. Getting upset after an out and screaming?? Uh yea, what you do, lose the lottery on the last number? Sorry, you let your emotions get the best of you there sport.
