Yeah, I'm gonna pull for them as long as they aren't playing the Sox (or Mets if it's the world series). They are gonna be the best second half team in baseball... AGAIN!
Also, I just read Moneyball for the first time and I like Beane. Maybe I'll get to a playoff game too. That'd be nice. 6/18/2006 4:21:15 PM |

Oakland always plays well post all star break (since 00). I think it was 02 when they reeled off a 20 game winning streak. They are starting to pour it on pre all star break and lead the west already, before the break. This bodes well for them because their pitching is running on all cylinders even without the best pitcher in baseball on the rise, IMO, in Harden (Obvioulsy Zito is the Ace). If Harden comes back soon, I put Zito, Harden, Haren, and Loiza against any 4 pitchers on another team In MLB. I think Beane is very shrewd, although I wouldn't have paid Estaban Loiza 6+M, which makes him the third highest paid player on the team behind Zito and Chavez. As an Athletics fan, I think the bullpen will decide if they could do any damage in the playoffs. Young guns don't get it done in October, especially the bullpen. 6/18/2006 9:33:48 PM |

It looks like Zito could be, but I bet he rides out this season beofre July 31. But the A's did a good job locking up Kotsay last year in the same predicament. I gotta think Zito is every bit as big a priority than Kotsay. Tejada and Giambi won MVP's. Thats an automatic 12 mil a year, and there's no way to negotiate with those players, an MVP is that big of a foundation to get the big bucks. 6/18/2006 9:40:12 PM |

^^ I'm moving to the East Bay in a few weeks, hate the Giants, and need a local rooting interest.. the A's fit the bill.. plus as I said, I like Billy Beane..
The A's will be my #3...
^ Zito is going to be in New York next year.. one side of the East River or the other.. that is pretty much set in stone in my mind (but I've been wrong before plenty of times!)

^^^, yea I figured it would be coming, but I think he will finish the year in Oakland, I see him more in Queens though, I don't think he would mesh at all with the Yankees, but I thought the same thing about Giambi and Damon from Boston

I'm not going to be a hardcore A's fan or anything.. just a local rooting interest.
I went to the game when they were 3 games UNDER .500.. i hadn't even noticed they won 9 in a row or whatever it is.. 6/18/2006 10:04:46 PM |
