anybody catch this?

Gore made some good points but they were in between his unfounded global warming rhetoric

he said every year hundreds of thousands of people have died from the results of global warming? what like people never got heat stroke or died from hurricanes until 100 years ago?

I think the hurricane argument is probably the dumbest

if it wasn't a main point of the trailer, I might be inclined to see this movie

Jesus Christ, talk about strawmans.

He's not saying hurricanes didn't exist or cause problems

He is saying there are more powerful hurricanes more often. Which is fact.

Global warming is fact

Humans as the cause is fact

the only scientist disupting that are individuals bought and paid for by the oil companies.

No, it's not. Globally, hurricanes are not up significantly in recent years. It's only the east coast of the US that has seen an upswing. And even last season's high number of hurricanes cannot touch the 30's, which averaged considerably more hurricanes annually.

The last time the meteors came, we thought the sky was on fire. Naturally, we blamed the Irish. We hanged more than a few.

Humans as the cause is fiction

the only scientist disupting that are individuals bought and paid for by the environmentalists

see how easy that bullshit is?

its not FACT that global warming DOES or DOESNT exist...theres not strong enough evidence for either side

take a fucking science class instead of regurgitating some bullshit rhetoric

There is scientific consensus that the earth is getting warmer

The disputes revolve around whether man is to blame

so is it a coincidence that the earth has started heating up again right after the industrial revolution?

no one knows for sure, but i wouldn't bet that its just a coincidence

The baby ice age that lasted from around 1450-1850 could also play a part, although I have never seen it addressed from either side.

The baby ice age you speak of was most likely caused by the bursting of an Ice Damn in north American that allowed a mass of fresh water to flood into the North Atlantic causing the gulf stream to shut down for a period due to a lower salinity... Read more into this if you'd like... It's a theory but the most plausible and the one with the most Evidence backing it up... This also only caused cooler temperatures for Europe and secondarily the Northern Hemisphere in general during that period...

and all the glaciers melting will create another baby ice age

i was just playing devils advocate

a lot of people equate any glaciers melting or anything that rises sea level to something caused by humans and co2 emissions

i was just, in my own way, pointing out that stuff like that does indeed happen naturally, yes

yeah the dinosaurs would still be here today if we had switched to hybrid cars

then people would bitch about how much profits the oil companies hydrogen fuel cell companies were making off us, even though we had the 5th cheapest hydrogen fuel cell prices in the world

thats not trolling, thats playing devils advocate through sarcasm completely relevant to the topic

you on the other hand take a political thread and talk about soccer and basketball

maybe i should've been completely literal and said "there have been natural disasters that affected life on earth before humans aggressively emitted carbon dioxide into the atmosphere"...i didnt think it was difficult at all to understand the way i actually worded it

just stop

Well shit. There have been meteors hitting Earth all the time, and they used to be much bigger than the ones we get now. I guess we should just let them hit. Screw nuking them, that's a pansy LIEberal conspiracy. Those dumbass hippies probably think dinosaurs would still be around if it weren't for a few meteors.

Actually, it was communism that killed them. See, that's what they don't tell you.

a meteor with a given trajectory and velocity and distance from earth is a bit more tangible than a theory of temperature fluctuations with no quantification

that's how science works--a theory is adhered to until its proven wrong

do not mistake science with religion

and i have observed enough to buy the theory of Global Warming

natural cycles do cause it, but man's activities are exacerbating it

^if thats a serious question, then i'll give a serious answer...no gore didnt invent the internet...the internet was invented a few decades ago by the military/govt to be a means of communications in the event that a nuclear war or other disaster prevented normal communications channels...but i hope that wasnt a serious question

Al Gore seems like a pretty smart guy, but he's going a little overboard with the global warming shit.

Ok, the earth has risen a degree or two in 100 years.....but look at all the shit we have developed in the last 100 years. Automobiles, rockets, etc.

Now the attention has been brought to the situation that we cannot continue doing this forever, and my guess is that 100 years from now, we will have new technologies, and new ways of fucking up the earth. But we will all be dead by then, so I dont give a fuck.

Okay, good. Arpanet, exactly. And when the internet became a resource for research and educational institutions, soon afterward expanding into the corporate realm, what Congressional bills fostered these developments?

"BLITZER: I want to get to some of the substance of domestic and international issues in a minute, but let's just wrap up a little bit of the politics right now.

Why should Democrats, looking at the Democratic nomination process, support you instead of Bill Bradley, a friend of yours, a former colleague in the Senate? What do you have to bring to this that he doesn't necessarily bring to this process?

GORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will be.

But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

bingo!

his actual quote was:

"But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system. "

but as soon as republicans heard it, they twisted it around into "Gore claimed he invented the internet"...which obviously isn't what he said. but you have to hand it to them, it was a brilliant move. people to this very day still believe that Gore claimed he invented the internet.

he did help expand the internet

but why the hell did he say he took the initiative in creating the internet

the internet already existed, he didnt create it

this isnt a case of taking something out of context...its a case of him not thinking before he spoke, and getting called out on it
