i'm debating whether I should buy a macbook pro now, or wait to buy a cheapo dell Vista laptop or macbook pro when OS X 10.5 comes out early next year. i don't have any specific needs, mainly for web browsing, programming, a little photoshop, no gaming. what do y'all think? 6/23/2006 1:02:18 PM |

^ point being all apple apps from here on will run on your standard pc, so why pay the premium for apple hardware?

do you have any pressing need to upgrade right now? your current machine breaking down or anything?
If you need a computer now, get one now. If you're just looking to waste money for no good reason, though... Perhaps you'd have an actual dilemma if you were asking this question in November, but right now Vista is 6 months away and 10.5 at least that far away. 6/23/2006 2:05:34 PM |

i don't have a particularly pressing need, but i want to turn my desktop into a PVR and i'd rather have a laptop anyways. i can wait, but i'm pretty eager to have DVR capabilities and/or to see if OS X lives up to the hype 6/23/2006 2:28:20 PM |

Yea, I can't imagine that a beta release of anything is going to be world class 6/23/2006 4:45:21 PM |

I'd say get an Intel-Mac once more support for it comes out. WAIT until it works with both vista and OSX 10.5. 6/23/2006 6:43:50 PM |

^ depends if the OSX versions have universal binaries. Adobe software doesn't so yeah the windows version will be faster since it's not going to run on a PPC emulation/rosetta crap.

The best part about that post was "I heard" instead of "I specifically know exactly what I'm talking about." hearsay = don't post 6/27/2006 3:09:37 AM |
