If you look down this page, there are several dive reports from the U-352 and the Papoose. This site is good for weather conditions, visibility, and sea life you'll see. If you dive the Papoose the same day, you could see 7-9 ft Tiger Sharks. Hope this helps.

I've dove it a bunch..I'd really recommend it at least once, just to see it...its about 115' ... and if you go in July or August when the vis is >90ft its awesome.
http://www.olympusdiving.com can get you out there and they're more than reputable. George, the Captain of the Olympus, was one of the first people to dive the U-352.
One of the things that struck me the first time I saw it was how small it was, gives you an appreciation for how uncomfortable it must have been to be on it during the war. 6/25/2006 2:44:40 PM |

Pretty sure those are Sand Tigers. NC does have Tiger Sharks but they are very rare to see. Sand tigers are very common.
I love diving with the Sand Tiger population at Markham. A little scary at first (cause they swim with their mouth open and their teeth stick out) but you just got to keep cool, they are friendly (at least the ones at the Markham--used to divers, I guess).

For some reason, over the years, the U-352 has claimed more that its fair share of diving accidents and fatalities. " |

The Oriskany would be a good dive, and while it's totally accessible on air or nitrox...if you're planning on going deeper than ~130ft I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you've had trimix training. While depths of 130ft are completely accessible on 21% (air) to 30% nitrox...if you want to REMEMBER the dive and not be narc'd, I would use trimix (lowers your equivalend narcotic depth) and doubles (extend bottom time), or at least a stage/deco bottle. If I recall I heard that the wreck starts around 70ft so if you don' further than from there to ~130ft, I doubt you'd have a problem.

Yes, the one in the aquarium is a replica of the U352, the sub we're talking about in the thread. 6/26/2006 6:12:09 PM |
