Go here for all your Raleigh HD questions: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=147473
This was from a person talking with the VP of Programming for TWC-Raleigh...

Hi, Mr. Dressler. Rather than believe the message boards, I prefer to get accurate information from the parties involved, so I'll ask you. Are there any HD (or SD) additions imminent for TWC? Specifically:
ESPN2HD National Geographic HD NFL Network HD
ESPNU NFL Network
Here's Dressler's latest response. Same ol, same ol. ______________
espn2 hd and nat geo hd are both on the near horizon, though no specific date can be given. the others are more problematic at the moment. " |
Most of these were expected to be done in early '066/27/2006 1:59:47 PM |

if enough people switch to satellite, TWC will do something about it. until then they have no reason to get the extra channels. 6/27/2006 2:12:07 PM |

nat geo hd should be cool as hell
Discovery HD is awesome
i am assuming the "imminent" time frame they speak of means they are approaching some preset number of specific requests to add the channels? cause damn i would pay extra to get the channels if possible 6/27/2006 2:13:10 PM |

that's like saying if enough people don't buy gas on a given day, Exxon will have to drop prices
unfortunately it doesn't work like that
all I know is that I would like to watch the ING Par 3 Shootout tonight in HiDef 6/27/2006 2:13:55 PM |

pretty soon all of the espns (espnhd, espn2hd, espnu, espnclassic, etc) are all going to be pay channels like HBO and showtime and such. you are going to have to pay extra to get the ESPN package. 6/27/2006 2:40:52 PM |

I fully expect ESPN to be a subscription package in the enw future. They are the type of network that has driven up your cable costs. THey know full well they can demand pretty much whatever they want because the bulk of the population have to have them. Its only logical for the cable companies to directly pass their cost on to people who want it. Personally, I wish we could order everything a la carte... I have no need for Lifetime, Oxygen, We, etc. Hell, my wife can't stand those channels either. 6/27/2006 4:02:08 PM |

^yea but if that happened, then almost NOBODY would order some of those gay channels, therefore losing advertising money and whatever other types of incentives networks and cable companies get for showing them 6/27/2006 4:15:48 PM |

they did show a State bball game last year on either INHD or INHD2...pretty sweet...it was an early season game when Simmons had 13 and 13 I believe...awesome in hi-def...but with hardly any of our games on ESPN and with JP and/or Raycom being bitches about Hi-Def, you cant hardly watch State HD games 6/27/2006 4:26:01 PM |

I despise Raycom/JP's reason for not having HD. Is there really not universality when it comes to different affiliations and their HD decoding? 6/27/2006 4:41:49 PM |

As this was a question, there should be question marks in the thread title. Seeing this thread title makes one freak out in excitement only to find out its yet another thread asking when this is coming.

There excuse is mostly an excuse....however, it does have merit. Pretty much all of the networks do have different ways of sending their HD programming to their affiliates. I believe CBS and UPN (which wont exist soon) have used the same technology though because CBS uses the UPN pathway for the 3rd HD NFL game (I think). So yeah, different ways of receiving, different ways of decoding, and of course the whole 720p vs 1080i thing. Raycom often mentions that syndicated programming is just not available in HD, such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, for this reason. However, later this year, both of those shows plus The View plan to upgrade to HD (although I believe all of these shows are on ABC O&Os in their respective markets, which might help with distribution). The thing is, all of these stations upgraded to the equipment they needed to carry their networks HD programming....adding more equipment is a lot of money. If Raycom starts broadcasting in HD, Im sure WRAL wil do what they need to do to broadcast it, but what about all of the smaller stations in the ACC area? I highly doubt it....so its probably not even worth it for Raycom to upgrade at this point. What they should do is work out an arrangement with ESPN to share equipment at the tournament so they can at least offer those games in HD. Also, if theres anyone that doesnt have an excuse for more HD, its FSN....they already have the distribution issue covered, and Sunday Night Hoops is a national broadcast, therefore making it more worth their effort than a regional broadcast.6/27/2006 11:25:00 PM |

nbc just uses a satalite from new york to all the nbc affiliates, would it be all that hard for a satalite to new york or is there something im overlooking 6/27/2006 11:55:44 PM |

Why is Raleigh, not listed as an affiliate? And why the hell did they diversify so much. I was going to recommend that they just do HD for the affiliate they use the most, but that seems to be NBC and that would screw us that see it on CBS. Would it be incredibly too expensive to send out 3 or 4 different signals to each different affiliate? 6/28/2006 11:00:26 AM |

I could care less about ESPNU, but Time Warner better deliver the NFL Network by the time they start airing late season games this fall. 6/28/2006 11:15:28 AM |

Because those arent Lincoln Financial Sports affiliates, they are TV stations owned by Raycom.

Keep dreaming....TWC has stated they have no plans of adding NFL Network in the future.

According to emails between AVSforum members and Fred Dressler of TWC, particularly this quote from April 27th, TWC is "working hard to get espn2 on very soon. the nfl net is not likely to be on soon. " Considering where they are with ESPN2HD at two months later (nowhere), youll be visiting the bar or a friends house if you want to see the NFL Network games. 6/29/2006 9:22:44 AM |
