My girlfriend's computer is having serious issues.
When windows starts there is no start menu on the desktop and the only way to run programs is by using CTRL+ALT+DEL, and clicking File->New Task. I am unable to right click on the desktop, and can not use windows explorer. I've run HijackThis and cleaned it up, and done a virus scan without any viruses in the results.
Any help would be awesome! I'm thinking that Windows XP is corrupted, and we may have to re-install it, but I dont have a copy as it was pre-loaded on the machine. Suggestions? 6/28/2006 11:49:07 PM |

^I'm not computer savvy enough to understand that. Are you saying type that in the command prompt?
Also, I tried system restore and it would not restore to any previous date. 6/28/2006 11:54:21 PM |

Don't do that. It'll delete everything off your C drive. 6/28/2006 11:57:31 PM |

I guess it would be really douchebaggy for me to tell you to do that. For a quick explanation of what that command does--just read this; I'm sure you'll figure it out. http://bash.org/?50070
edit: I would just like to say that willyummm is douchebaggy as well. Besides, sounds like you need a new install of Windows anyway...

deltree doesn't work anymore isn't available on newer systems. rd /q /s
Why did you try system restore? You probably just made things worse ... give people a chance to respond to the thread ... could have take some easy steps for a quick fix. Update us with what the problem(s) are now.
