Alright, so 12 days ago I took a nasty tumble at a bar and landed HARD on my elbow. Since then my elbow has hurt like hell. It was swollen and bruised for about 7-8 days, and still has some swelling. I don't have joint pain, but putting any weight on the end of my elbow is quite painful and it hurts to touch the bone. I've also noticed that there is something loose and hard in my elbow right around where I fell on it. (I mean I can move it around under the skin)

My only thoughts on this is that its a bone chip? If it still really hurts on Friday I'm gonna go get an Xray.

Any thoughts on this?

You should probably go get an X-ray.

You're looking at bursitis. I had this happen to my knee right before summer camp when I was younger. Basically, the bursae that usually floats around and keeps your joints lubed was slightly damaged when you busted your elbow...it can get scar tissue in it and become swollen and inflammed. For my knee, I had to wear a brace for 2 or 3 weeks but I don't know about the implications for not going to the doctor.

I still have a hard little bursae floating around in my knee. I can press it and feel it moving around. I doubt if you're feeling a bone chip...more than likely, it's a bursae with a little damage and scar tissue.

This website says to treat it at home and if it hasn't healed in 10 days, go see the doctor.

I don't have any of those symptoms though. I only feel pain if I put pressure/weight on the tip of whatever bone this is. I have no joint pain, and I mean no joint pain. I've worked out at the gym and waterskiied with this condition and its given me no pain.

Apparently you're in TKE--that means that we'll assume you drink a lot, without actually knowing you.

from that website

just what i thought bursitis is an overuse chronic condition

you have an acute injury, and it sounds like a bone chip

and none of us have xray vision so like i said you might wanna get that checked out.

since it is still hurting this far out, it should be checked out by a doc. do you have any pain/numbess/tingling that shoots down your arms or is in your fingers (like your pinky and ring fingers in particular)? does it feel like hitting your funny bone when you put it down on something and it hurts? if so it could be a problem with your ulnar nerve. any way, if you can take nsaids like advil/ibuprofen or aleve/naproxen then you might want to take some if it was an injury.

That's my impression from what you described...

Go see a doctor and get an X-ray.

I think seeing a doctor is a great idea BUT, when I had bursitis it was from blunt trauma to my knee cap. The little thing floating around in there didn't hurt unless I put direct pressure on my knee. I could bend it and walk around just fine but if I pressed on it, it was extremely painful. Anyhow, go get it looked at. Either condition is undesirable.

oh okay

^no it doesn't hurt when I push on/move around the hard loose thing. It hurts when I put any pressure on the tip of my elbow bone.

I'm going to the Doc when I get off work at 5...

Don't go to the doctor. So you chipped a bone or something? Big deal. It'll heal.

You shouldn't have gone to the doctor. Now you have to go back.

^^my favorite bar, where the bartenders and servers have never been anything but awesome to me.

^Well, I could not go if I felt like it. I mean, the orthopedist I saw Friday has me wondering. After I described my pain and how it happened he was like, umm I think you have tendonitis and should have some physical therapy. I said, hold on a second man. I FELL and banged my elbow to cause the injury. Plus, I've lifted weights at the gym, and waterskiied without any joint pain. Of course I don't have any fucking tendonitis. He was like, ahh okay.

Beyond what you said about tendonitis - the actual medical definition of tendonitis is inflamation of a tendon (dur). So, if you feel something loose in your elbow and shit, I really don't think that it could be tendonitis regardless of how it feels when you are active...

Yeah thats what I think. Idiot doctors!

I'm still waiting for my health insurance to approve an MRI. but if it takes too long and if my pain continues to go away, I might say forget it...
