very good idea..this is why having an alumni/former bball player will help this team out...coaches like herb sendek, don't stress history and tradition and many recruits don't know what nc state baseketball is all about.

and like coach lowe said, we did have THE GREATEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL PLAYER TO EVER PLAY THE GAME

I have to say, I really like what Sid is doing and how hes doing it. Someone in charge is finally proud about NC State's history and was a major part of it. I'm ready to see him coach.

that ain't right. anyone even remotely involved in this program, not to mention the players, should have this tape recorded in their brain.

it just means that some of our top recruits come here for the facilities, the ACC, the coaching, and the school instead of envisioning the national championships

on the buzz a few weeks ago he was talking about contacting high profile alums to try and get them to show up @ games and take a more visible roll in supporting the team. that coupled with the "family" attitude he is trying to bring back to the team, gets me hyped for the next few seasons.

every college basketball fan should know about state's history in the 70s and 80s...hell we got 2 national championships and we should have had 3, but ncaa suspensions forbid us from playing in the tourney...did i mention we went undefeated that year. But i'm really excited about the upcoming seasons..sid really loves the school and i think he will make a HUGE turn around

Pistol definitely was a rediculous scorer when he was at LSU (and any other time for that matter) but DT as a player, athlete dominated. Pistol scoring average was REDICULOUS....course he didnt have to share the ball with Moe Rivers, Monte Towe, and Tommy B.

i was just referring to a word that is commonly misspelled now b/c of popularized alternate spellings, especially on the internet, like the other one. the rediculous occurrence is due to people posting "Regoddamndiculous". sometimes people see these alternate spellings so much that they forget the joke or intention of it, and start using it in place of the correctly spelled word.

it wouldn't surprise me if there was one named that though.

Yea, DT is the best player in the ACC, how about that for arguments sake to save time. And Alcindor is the best college player, not Pete, who was too dumb to get into NC Satte as an athlete, now that's just scary.

I'm lovin it! This is exactly what our head coach should be doing. It's not "living in the past"... Its being proud of your accomplishments and getting these guys to see that we USED to be a real player around here and if they step up, we can do it again.

DT had to play in the ACC, while PM played in the SEC. the talent between the two leagues has gotten much closer now as evident by this years tournament, but there was a definite gap between the two conferences talent-wise back then. if you ever saw the CBS special on Marevich you would know that he basically got the LSU fans to care about basketball. they said that during his freshman year, the fans would pack out the arena for the Freshmen games and leave before the start of the Varsity team games. that's quite sad.

He brought LSU from 3-20 pre-Maravich to 20-8 his senior year, with a bunch of scrubs. David Thompson had a hell of a lot better supporting cast.

I've never known why Press Maravich left State for LSU, did they force him out to make room for Norm Sloan, or did he leave for more money?

when Press found out that Pete was denied admissions to State, he found out about the job at LSU. he packed up headed to Baton Rouge b/c he knew Pete would be admitted there. Pete one time said, "hey dad I spoke to the coach at Kentucky, and he really seems to think i could bring something to his team. i think i might go play there. what do you think of that?" well Press basically said, "well sure son you can go play for Kentucky, once i'm dead." or something to that effect, and i'm pretty sure it was Kentucky, but i'm not completely confident in that. he basically said son you're playing for me and that's it. yeah Pete Marevich while a great scorer, and did win plenty of games never won the big one. he never won a NCAA title or a NBA title during his playing time, and what's sad is the year after he retired from the Celtics, they won the NBA championship. he always wanted to win the big one, b/c that's what people would always criticize him for. he wanted to prove that he could lead his team to a championship.

Press and Pete were a package deal.. Pete couldn't get into NC State and LSU offered Press the job and let Pete in...

Is he also showing the 1974 games?
Talking about the 1973 undefeated season where we could have won another title if not for Dean Smiths histrionics?
Or giving them a lesson about Everett Case?

cuz othewise i worry that it's just a new coach just unloading his ego on the young'ns

i thought he was showing them both vids. or at least that's the impression i got. i mean i don't think it's unloading your ego, when you tell a recruit to do some research on what many say is the greatest college player ever.

Quote :
""I am looking forward to playing in this arena," said Lowe, who played his entire career (1979-83) at Reynolds Coliseum on NC State's campus. "I got a chance to see one game here before. This facility is second to none in college basketball. There are maybe seven NBA arenas that are better than this one.

"Maybe.""

Back in '83, NCSU used to be able to win a National Championship by 600 points.

You guys wanna watch my video?

maybe he should talk about the 1973 undefeated season to unload your bitterness on the young'ns and give us some kind of "unc screwed us, we deserve something" attitude so we wont play as hard and try to earn things

actually, it'd fall into the "reasons you should be willing to get energized about playing UNC" category...

there seems to be a lack of intensity on the part of the younger players when we play them... it's something that needs to be corrected...

I wouldnt worry about him leaving the 74 team out of the picture. He seems to talk about DT an awful lot, so I'm sure they've heard the story. Plus....DT and Burleson hang around a lot also.
