Should we allow an organization on our shores that:

-does not respect property rights
-will not commit to fighting terrorism
-promotes humanism (worship of "mother earth") and the unimportance of christian values
-wants to ban civilians from owning guns
-runs corrupt organizations worldwide who have abused authority as well as people
-legitimizes despots like saddam and the president of iran

It would be in the best interest of America to remove ourselves from this organization and remove this cancer from our shores!

We cannot start picking and choosing which organizations we allow to operate on our shores. Until the UN begins funding hamas or something we have no grounds of kicking them out.

And giving up our security council seat is silly, we should stay till they throw us out.

As for funding the UN, it would be reasonable begin partial funding of just those programs Congress agrees with. That is our right as a soverign nation, and if we wish to go that route that is our choice.

Yes. What good would pulling out of the UN do for us aside from save us a few dollars? In that situation we would still have the same organization with the same problems that you mentioned except we could do nothing to try and remedy the problem. It would be very similar to us abstaining from the ICC. For all of its problems, we can do nothing to help solve them because we decided to not sign on to it.

Really? Its fairly obvious you're not only a troll, but you are an alias for a well known and suspended troll.

So if you're going to report us, you can go ahead and report yourself as well.

You mean like the emminent domain decision?

Quote :

I believe the UN has engaged in peace keeping operations through its time of existance. And yes, some of them were anti-terrorist. They just don't hate arabs.

Quote :
"-promotes humanism (worship of "mother earth") and the unimportance of christian values"

The UN is a secular body and always has been. I don't see how changing it to a Christian body would do anything except alienate a large percentage of the world (which is exactly what the UN tries not to do).

Quote :
"-wants to ban civilians from owning guns"

Issue of national sovereignty and the UN does not make those decisions nor should they.

Quote :
"-runs corrupt organizations worldwide who have abused authority as well as people"

Examples besides oil for food? What about UNICEF? How many people have they helped?

Quote :
"-legitimizes despots like saddam and the president of iran"

Issue of national sovereignty.

P.S. - Isolationism is bad. Refer to US history.

Seperation of church and state doesn't really apply to the UN. I just find it funny that he wants a worldwide body to endorse one religion. Its really a shallow view.

1. If I was once a troll, I am not now. None of my most recent posts resemble the initial liberal baiting I did.

2. On the topic of account abuse/aliases: I was suspended long ago and never unsuspended. I was never told what I did and never unsuspended in accordance with the rules of the site. There seem to be people who do mch worse things than liberal baiting that get unsuspended eventually. I never was unsuspended, and since I wasnt for whatever reason, I had to pay the 5 dollar fee to get another account.

I'm now here for discussion, not "trolling" as you may claim.

I'll address the other issues dealing w/ this thread later.

I know that it doesn't apply to the UN, but when he asks, "Should we allow an organization on our shores that" I assume that he is referring to "we" as Americans...and as Americans separation of church and state does apply...

either way I agree, a very shallow idea

on the topic of the "earth charter" and the "humanist religion" as backed by the un:

Quote :
"What's the deal with UNESCO? While President Reagan took us out of this anti-American organization because of their rotten track record, President Bush says let's get back in. UNESCO, our global school board, is a big supporter of the diabolical Earth Charter. ^^I'm not alone. What's wrong with wanting to ensure that we are able to act in our best interest?

My hope is that the organization will disband like the League of Nations. Unfortunately, it might take a major disaster to see this happen, so I hope that our withdrawal will serve as an example to others, and hopefully other nations will follow us out.

First of all, it's the democratic consensus of the world, not of the U.S. people over the world.

Secondly, we have veto power over anything that goes through the UN.

We have one vote; the same as any other nation.

We can also veto pretty much anything we want to as well. So we have more power than most.

Well, I can actually agree with you on that. I guess it's a start.

Quote :
"I guess our war against the Taliban and our support for anti-terror efforts right now in the middle east means nothing to you?"

Remind me what country the Taliban ruled over. Also, with car bombs going off every day, random shootings in the streets, and constant violence threatening civilians and soldiers in Iraq, I would have to say our efforts are unfortunately not going so well.

Quote :
"the actions of a few people and isolated mistakes are nothing like the rotten track record of unesco and un workers abroad"

So, I'm guessing you believe that everything we have done is just squeaky clean? Also, I think you can look at our own government and see our own rotten track record.

Quote :
"You know nothing of the world climate of the time, I guess. Figures."

First, does this mean you're justifying us aligning with Saddam? Second, I know that the Iran/Iraq war was going on at the time. We put all of our eggs in one basket, and it ended up biting us in the ass in the long run. Was it the first time we did it in our history? Absolutely not. After all, look at how bin Laden gained power and influence. I guess you can justify that as well.

Here's a quote from Rumsfeld in 1983:

Quote :
"“[Saddam] made it clear that Iraq was not interested in making mischief in the world. It struck us as useful to have a relationship, given that we were interested in solving the Mideast problems."

Quote :
"Anyone who is a not a pussy whiny liberal is a troll

that said, i think we should keep our seat...but the organization is a clusterfuck...hence why we dont really care what they say and we decide whats best for our own country"

Well, I'll start by saying I haven't called you a troll yet. However, simply calling everyone pussy liberals isn't exactly helping your cause. However, pages of everyone else bitching about you aren't exactly making this any better, so I'll leave it at that. That being said, I do agree with most of what you say about the UN in this quote. The UN is not going to decide what is best for us. Even if they say something, they won't do anything about it, and we all know that. My issue with most conservatives is the fact that many say in one breath that the UN is weak, but in the next breath, will say that they will take over America, and do something like take our guns. Which one is it: Are they strong enough to take over everything, or too weak to govern itself?
