So ideally I want a laptop with 2ghz processor, 1GB RAM, and 100GB hard drive. Having a hard time finding one I like, because I only want to spend around $1000. Any suggestions? Is the AMD processor shitty? 7/25/2006 10:18:30 PM |

AMD is fine. 1) spend more money, or 2) get less computer 7/25/2006 10:40:27 PM |

i want one more as a travel computer so battery life is a prime objective but i'd still like it to be decent enough to play dvds or divix movies with no issues. 7/25/2006 10:43:44 PM |

^ You don't need anything with those specs in order to do that. You'd be fine with at least 1.5 Ghz and 512 RAM 7/25/2006 10:48:10 PM |

^ most of the time the Thinkpad's you get from campus turn out to be a better deal than IBM employees can get. The one's purchased from campus come with the 3-year warranty included in the price so that makes it hard to beat. 7/28/2006 7:40:19 PM |

no, i know the employee purchace program price is better than the bookstore, anyhow I am not a student.
my HP has a 15.4 screen, that was an important factor to me, along with the other features i mentioned. 7/30/2006 2:10:40 PM |

if i had to buy a pc laptop..it would be a IBM thinkpad..they're solid performers 7/30/2006 2:41:26 PM |

^^ Did you actually look at the model I linked? That's a 15.4" widescreen too... And SOME of the EPP prices are better than the student prices (at the low end espescially.) At the high end though, student discounts tend to exceed the IBM EPP. Upgrade costs and acessories are almost always cheaper through the bookstore too. As far as not being a student, well that doesn't always matter... 7/30/2006 5:25:38 PM |

Well, even though they're the same company, the HP laptops are still better than the Compaq ones at least. 7/30/2006 7:58:57 PM |
