I am having problems accessing my Internet explorer web browser from my laptop. I suspect the reason that the internet Explorer web browser is taking an extremely long time to process any information is because maybe a virus is infecting the web browser

I think I may acquired a virus through an acculumation of downloads ; but, I then assumed that Norton antivirus software would have automatically detected fixed any malformation that had come with the download files .

Although I scanned my laptop for viruses and the antivirus software found 3 virus programs and eliminated them, My internet web browswer still does not work properly .

Are there any other options I can respond to that will fixed the problem

How do you get another browser without downloading a browswer from the Internet. I don't know if its even my browser thats not working . I only came to the conclusion that it had to be my browser if the anti-virus software scanned everything and eliminated all detected viruses .

Try:

Start, Run, Explorer
In the address bar try to browse to http://www.getfirefox.com.
If it works, enjoy.
If not, re-install IE.

Go to another machine and download them.

Burn to CD

install on your machine.

We're not sure, that's just it. Trying a browser other than IE will help figure that out.

can you ping without issue?

Start>run>cmd> type "ping http://www.google.com"

Famous last words.

[Edited on July 26, 2006 at 3:40 PM. Reason : Norton is the specific target of too many viruses to assume that it's going to be reliable.]

I don't think its the browser that faulty because I used MSN explorer and I still failed to access the internet.

Could it be that the virus formerly on my laptop could have eliminated my IP address ? I am running out of ideas .

Sounds like a good excuse to reformat to me. Reformatting is generally quicker and achievesbetter results than trying to fix problems the hard way.

^ Back up anything you want to save on disk.thumb drive. Insert your OS disk. Reformat the drive (eraseing everything). Install a shiny new copy of your OS free of annoying virii and malware. Put your backed up data back on the machine. Reinstall your favorite programs. Profit!

MSN Explorer uses IE so that doesn't help you at all.

IE was built faulty so

Try AVG antivirus and run it in safe mode with system restor disabled. Norton is a piece of shit.

Penzoate:

Are you using a high speed connection?
Are you going through a router?
Do you have a valid IP address? (Start, Run, CMD - type ipconfig and hit enter)
We need some more information from you before we can really get too far into it.

You most likely have spyware on your computer. Go to another computer, search some previous TWW threads for how to get rid of it. Namely, download/install Spybot and Adaware.

You could test your connection without downloading a new browser. As someone mentioned, you can try to ping the outside world or you can kill two birds with one stone. Open up your norton AV program and attempt a download of the latest virus definitions. Something tells me you might be back-level on your virus definitions. If you can connect, great. Be sure to re-scan your computer after you've updated.

Have you tried any of the suggestions here? They are all good. We can't help much if we don't know which of the ideas we are running by you do and don't work.
