mainly for home defense, so i guess a tactical would be good. if i could skeet shoot with it that'd be great. 69 said he's sell me his remington 870 but not for a couple of months

go to that lawman's store that's somewhere around here. i can't remember how to get there, but they have old police shotguns for pretty cheap.

Go buy a Rem 870 exp or Mossberg 500 from Walmart.

Also buy a hacksaw, carpenter's square, wooden dowel, and mill file and cut it off yourself.
With the slide closed, stick the dowel down the barrel.
Mark where the muzzle is on the dowel.
Pull the dowel out, measure 18.5 inches up, and mark that spot.
Measure the distance between the two marks and that's how much you cut off the end of the barrel.
wrap tape around the barrel as close as you can to perfectly perpendicular.
Measure the distance between the tape and muzzle again just to check.
Cut with hack saw.
File the end square using your carpenter's square to check.
Find a clamp on/glue on or other type of fiber optic front bead and attach it to the vent rib.

That's the cheapest way to get a tactical shotgun. Buy a mag extension (BTW you can't extend a Mossy 500 mag) or side saddle or whatever else you want to put on it.
You could also buy an 18" barrel and keep the long one for skeetskeetskeet.

Also, I don't remember Lawmen's selling any decently price police trade ins in a long time. If you do wanna find them, they're on Tryon Rd east of S. Saunders.
