everytime i turn it on it now goes straight to the browswer and config screen and then says no data as if there is no disk present. Anyone that can walk me through it? or for a small fee may be able to look at it in person...will deliver as long as its fairly close to NCSU. Its pissin me off because i just got NCAA 07 and wanna play. 8/11/2006 12:36:08 PM |

I don't want to be a dick, but if you google PS2 and "no data" you get a lot of responses. Looks like its a dirty laser or worn out laser gear. 8/11/2006 12:42:04 PM |

do other games work? is it just ncaa 07? does it read your memory cards?
could be any of a long list of things, it probably isn't just a disc read error
you could have some problem with the hardware, the tray could be loose or something
if you're comfortable with it, you can open the case and take a look for yourself
else, i'm sure someone can do it 8/11/2006 12:43:00 PM |

yea i opened it myself to take a look, all wires and all are connected it seems so thats not the problem..i believe it is with the laser gear as its now makin a sound like the track is messed up...Im wondering how much its gonna be to get that fixed or where in Raleigh could do it. I did try google and it brought up alot of stuff i was just wondering if anyone on here had this problem as well. Is there anyone on here thats willing to take a look at it or perhaps fix it. I think the laser is fine as it was working yesterday it just sounds like its not aligned and I dont want to go tryin to fix that myself. 8/11/2006 12:56:27 PM |

ok, i opened it up and took a look at it myself, turns out the cable connected to the laser and LED lights were barely connected and it was just a matter of plugging it back in. Also it was slightly off track so i adjusted it, cleaned it and repositioned the connects and now it works fine. no sound no problems and a free PS2...cant beat that.
since im new to the whole PS2 world, is there any way i can do the memory without the memory card that cost $texas, i see the USB port and tried puttin a flash drive in but that did nothing...guess im gonna have to buy that plug as well as teh internet stuff from PS2 as well unless theres a way i can do it differently...thanks for looking though guys that have already replied. 8/11/2006 1:37:43 PM |

As someone said already, a lot things can be the cause of this. Mine had this same thing happen, and the cause was that the laser that reads the disc had finally just flat out died. This is a common problem with first generation systems. You can try adjusting the small white wheel to refocus the laser, but at best this is a temporary fix. The laser will completely die out shortly after. 8/12/2006 3:41:58 AM |
