So I just up and bought my first comics in a loooong time. (Holy crap comics have changed a lot since then. I can't find the "seal of approval" or whatever it was/is anymore and don't even know how to look at a cover and tell what month it came out) I'm interested in the whole Marvel Civil War events (like I'll assume many people are)
I feel so behind on everything and have a few questions I hope the answers to which will catch me up. (i'm not asking for an issue-by-issue summing up of every event till now for these, just an attempt to give me less of a feeling of being totally lost)
Ok for those of you interested in giving me a hand, here goes:
What happened to Doom (and Klaw) after The Beyonder retook his power from him and zapped him into smoke?(Secret wars 1) And what did the falcon mean when he said Doom and the molecule man had "escaped from the raft"?
How did wolverine get the metal re-bonded to his skeleton after magneto fucked him up in the space-station? How long was he without it? Was he born with claws of bone?
Who the fuck is the "Nuke" dude?
Who is this chick at Xavier's joint with claws like logan's, and wtf is up with her?
are venom and carnage still around? How many spidey-suit monsters have their been to-date?
Where is collosus?
What "notable" mutants lost their powers in the decimation?
What are Juggernaut's "official" powers?
Is anyone as strong as the hulk?
NON Marvel questions:
Are Image and Valiant comics still around? Was youngblood ever any good?
How many D.C/Marvel crossovers have their been, and do the events within them ever transfer over to the primary mythos of their respecive story-lines? (ie/eg if superman burns a hole in spiderman's stomach, will there be a scar there in the next non-crossover issue of the amazing spiderman?)
Thank you and happy geeking

K, i haven't actually read a comic in a year or so, so I'm not all caught up.
Quote : | "And what did the falcon mean when he said Doom and the molecule man had "escaped from the raft"?" |
The raft is an ultra security prison island for super villians on a small island outside of NYC
Quote : | "How did wolverine get the metal re-bonded to his skeleton after magneto fucked him up in the space-station? How long was he without it? Was he born with claws of bone?" |
He got it back in 2000 or so. Apocalypse made him the horseman Death and he fucked some shit up for awhile before losing the brainwashing. It was during "The Twelve" storyline (i think).
Quote : | "Who is this chick at Xavier's joint with claws like logan's, and wtf is up with her?" |
X-23, some bullshit female clone of Wolverine's that was developed by the Weapon X project to be an assassin.
Quote : | "are venom and carnage still around? How many spidey-suit monsters have their been to-date?" |
I dunno about venom, but carnage was destroyed a couple years ago during a prison break from the Raft by the Sentry. the Sentry flew him into space and ripped him apart. It was the first issue of New Avengers.
Quote : | "Is anyone as strong as the hulk?" |
depends on how angry he is.
Quote : | "Are Image and Valiant comics still around? Was youngblood ever any good?" |
youngblood sucked. i think valiant is dead. image has turned into a good publisher recently. check out Invincible.

a few, and they always suck bad. and the events only take place in the crossover.8/14/2006 8:23:47 AM |

There's likely to be some overlap in the answers here, but I'm bored as fuck.
Quote : | "What happened to Doom (and Klaw) after The Beyonder retook his power from him and zapped him into smoke?(Secret wars 1) And what did the falcon mean when he said Doom and the molecule man had "escaped from the raft"?" |
I don't know if you remember The Vault from your early geeking days, but the raft is basically the successor to that. Super-villain prison. If someone escaped from there, it was during the first New Avengers arc.
Quote : | "How did wolverine get the metal re-bonded to his skeleton after magneto fucked him up in the space-station? How long was he without it? Was he born with claws of bone?" |
Apocalypse did make him death, but his brainwashing power sucks of late(Gambit, Sunfire, and Polaris have all recently been and then quit being horsemen). He was without the adamantium for about two or three years. It was revealed that he was born with the bone claws in the under whelming and over-praised Origin, which is not to be confused with the surprisingly good Wolverine: Origins ongoing.
Quote : | "Who the fuck is the "Nuke" dude?" |
Storng cyborg-ish guy who lived through 'Nam and was abused by the government(recently retconned to be abused by Wolverine himself) in an effort to make a new Captain America(recently retconned to be an effort to create a new Wolverine).
Who is this chick at Xavier's joint with claws like logan's, and wtf is up with her?
Quote : | "Wolverine clone, only a teenage girl instead of a 100-plus-year-old hairy dude. Feel the apathy" |
Quote : | "are venom and carnage still around? How many spidey-suit monsters have their been to-date?" |
Eddie Brock gave up being Venom after finding Jeebus or some such thing. He sold the symbiote to the highest bidder and it ended up with Mac Gargan, the original Scorpion. He calls himself Venom now, which may or may not make Venom more interesting than he was after the mid-90's stripped a decent idea into an unreadable piece of shit.
Carnage was ripped in half(literally) by the Sentry. It was the greatest thing they ever did with that shitty character.
There have been around a billion Spidey-suit monsters through various cloning and spawning incidents. They seem to suck more as they get further from the original.
Quote : | "Where is collosus?" |
Astonishing X-Men!!! I love that book. He was recently revealed to be not dead in those pages after a few years of thinking that the Legacy Virus killed him off.
What "notable" mutants lost their powers in the decimation?Quote : | "
Jubilee, The Blob, Magneto, and Xavier. Any other powerless mutant is less than inconsequential.
What are Juggernaut's "official" powers?" |
He's UNSTOPPABLE!!! He basically can't be hurt and is really really strong. These powers are fueled by a magic rock of some sort.
Quote : | "Is anyone as strong as the hulk?" |
Not without getting into cosmic beings, which I don't know much about.
Quote : | "Are Image and Valiant comics still around? Was youngblood ever any good?" |
Youngblood sucked. Valiant, I think, is dead. Image is still around. I'll echo endorsements for Invincible and add and endorsement for The Walking Dead.

I think there have only been two really big crossovers to speak of. There won't be any more any time soon, as the EIC at Marvel has some beef with the Distinguished Competition for some reason or another. As for the rest of your question: whatever happens in the crossover stays in the crossover. Unless Superboy punching reality did something to change it.8/14/2006 1:05:03 PM |

i spent an entire evening on wikipedia buffing up on my comic history. I will say this:
There are way waaaaaaaay too many "Alternate timelines" and "Microverses" for my small mind to keep track of. Just from what I've read online, I'll be scared to buy a marvel comic that doesn't have "THIS IS TAKING PLACE IN THE REGULAR MARVEL UNIVERSE AND SHIT. YOU KNOW, THE ONE THAT MATTERS EVEN A TINY BIT" somewhere on the cover. Then they go and confuse the fuck out of me with merging choice points from breakoff stints into the main storyline.
"retcon" is it called? More like "FUCK EVERYTHING WE EVER TOLD YOU FOREVER"
p.s Doom 2099 is the best comic ever
thanks everyone 8/15/2006 12:06:01 PM |

There's the normal universe (616) Ultimate universe Marvel Max sometimes takes place in it own continuity
... for the most part that's it, right? 8/15/2006 12:35:16 PM |
BearWhoDrive All American 5385 Posts user info edit post |
The Squadron Supreme stuff gets its own continuity. I think they're going to do yet another Age of Apocalypse mini in the next year. Exiles are still hopping realities and telling shitty stories.
Those are a few others I know of. 8/15/2006 2:19:10 PM |

I'm really a bigger fan of the Ultimate universe (they are still doing that right? I haven't picked up a comic book in a year). When reading those I don't have to give a crap what happened to spider man 15 years ago, or how many times Jean Grey has changed her name to Phoenix and back, or how many times Magneto has come back to life. Everything is fresh and new.
At least that is how it is until it becomes too cluttered with crap, at which point I hope they scrap it and start over. That is what the Ultimate universe is really all about for me, freedom of storytelling without having to conform to all that backstory. 8/15/2006 3:02:20 PM |

Quote : | "The next incarnation of Ultron created his "mate", Alkhema, but after several battles against various foes, his programming degenerated and he began acting like a drunken hobo.
As a child, Virginia Hanlon was traumatized upon discovering that Santa Claus is not real. As an adult, she builds a robotic Santa that is partially constructed from the old, discarded parts of Ultron-6. Upon activation, "Santron" decides to kill the Avengers despite being programmed to be Santa Claus. After fighting the Avengers, his Santa programming takes over when he sees a cookie that Spider-Man and Hank Pym spiked with a disruptor device. After eating the spiked cookie, Santron shuts down." |
