everyone on ATH just agreed that fighting in baseball should have much harsher penalties, with players being suspended for running out of the dugout and bullpen.
fuck all that. i love fighting in baseball. it's definitely part of the game. what do you think? 8/17/2006 5:12:04 PM |

in any other sport a bench clearing brawl would result in mass-punishments
if anybody but the two people initially involved in the fight gets involved, they should face harsh penalties
it is stupid and pointless. if a hitter knew his whole team couldnt come back him up, he would be much less likely to charge the mound. baseball games take long enough w/out stupid fights erupting. 8/17/2006 5:15:14 PM |

I like seeing a good fight - last night's fight between the Angels and Rangers sucked. The only players that should be suspended are the guy throwing at a hitter and anyone who charges the mound/punches another player/tackles another player, etc.
Just because you leave the dugout, you should not be suspended. If it weren't for dugout players breaking shit up, the batter charging mound would get Robin Ventura'ed by the rest of the team on the field.

bullshit, if you want to see a fight, watch a boxing match or a hockey game
anybody that rushes the mound should face 5 game minimum suspension for first offense
anybody that was in the dugout/bullpen at the beginning fo the fight that leaves during shoud face 10 game suspension. 8/17/2006 5:21:06 PM |

sometimes a good fight is the only entertaining part of the entire game
i dont think baseball should hand out mass punishments for brawls. i think warning pitchers and managers and then tossing them as long as it goes on is fine. if a fight erupts, throw out the pitcher and batter involved. after the fact, if something drastic happened during the fight that warrented a suspension, then do what you have to do.
i dont think there is any need to throw out and suspend players for merely coming out of the dugout or bullpen

i have no problem with fighting in baseball, there's usually less fighting and more standing around
but there's a huge double standard in place, if this were to happen in the NBA they'd all be 'thugs' 8/17/2006 5:50:34 PM |

Fuck that. It's a part of the game.
If anything not enough pitchers throw inside to hitters. Baseball is getting to watered down in my opinion. Pedro Martinez is one of the last old school pitchers out there..

Give me a break. If someone throws a 95 mph pitch at my skull you better believe I'd do something about it. It's not like guys are getting nearly paralyzed (like hockey)..
