anyone know of any good (authentic!) chinese restaurants that aren't too expensive? trying to find a place to go for dinner tonight.

crystal palace is best buffet in raleigh.

[Edited on September 1, 2006 at 6:42 PM. Reason : ten ten is bad in comparison]

neo-china in cary has dim sum on the weekend. You should get there around 11:30am if you don't like waiting for seats.

I don't get the appeal of Five Star.

I mean, yeah, it's fine. It's good Chinese food. I don't really see it being set so far above some other restaurants, though.

first of all the atmosphere (unless they moved it from the location it used to be at in the warehouse district) is freaking awesome. it reminds me of something you'd find in LA or NYC. second of all, the food is just phenomenal. if you don't dig the place, i kinda have to wonder why...

Peking Garden, up by the corner of millbrook and six forks. has a HUGE traditional chinese menu, all kinds of tripe and bitter melon, thousand year eggs, and all sorts of delicious things. the interior is absolutely beautiful. it was the first restaurant in raleigh opened by the guy who runs Cody's on glenwood (which is also good, but the menu is very abbreviated, mostly non-traditional stuff.) 10-15 dollars per entree, and they do dim sum on the weekends.

can't even see the beautiful koi garden in this picture

http://www.pekinggardenraleigh.com they don't have the traditional menu on the website, but they still have it. you won't be disappointed!
