Alrighty...since my pup decided to eat my sunglasses I'm looking to invest in a new pair.

I want them to be polarized...its a must for my sensitive eyes.

Now, I had a pair of electric...I dont know what the deal was but some surfaces looked like rainbows when I saw them through the lenses. Weird, and not something I was fond of.

What are some good, sturdy brands, with quality lenses?

Note (to self...): These WILL be kept higher then my kitchen table.

that rainbow thing is BECAUSE of the polarization...it happens when you are looking at a surface that polarizes the light to some degree when it's reflected back.

I abuse sunglasses, and my ray bans have held up way better than anything else I've had.

I've been through about 50 pairs because I break glasses and fuck them up...so now I can only afford to wear like the cheap $40 pairs.

As far great lenses, I loved Costas but they scratched easily same with Maui. The best lense I ever wore was Rudy Project. They are extremely, extremely clear and the frames are very durable. I also like Oakleys alot but I think you pay for the name.

I get my sunglasses from here. They have some relatively cheap ones that are polarized & pretty durable.

There is a place in South Hills Mall off Walnut and Jones Franklin that has a big selection of sunglasses. Carolina Sunglasses or something like that. I would recommend Costa Del Mar's. Best pair I have ever worn. Go for polarized glass lenses, which scratch less. If you can find amber lenses they are great for driving.

I got mine from the sunglass hut down at the outlet mall. Picked up some polarized maui jim's that were really comfortable. They are at the bottom of the sound now, but they were really nice while I had them.

I agree with BobbyDigital, my ray bans still look new after 5 years. Mine were over $100 when I bought them.

Thanks for all the info everyone!! I'm about 3.5 hours from Raleigh, so I'm pretty much stuck with the surf shops out here. I think we might have a sunglass hut as well...gotta check on that.

Try going to an Optometrist office. Some of the ones we have at our office are better quality and cheaper than ones you can get from Sunglasses Hut.

i have a pair of Bolle "Sidney" style sunglasses. I've had them for a few months now. They been to africa in the desert, the beach, hunting and there is hardly any scratching on the lenses. Not to mention they're polarized and comfortable

I think they were 96 bucks after tax

that reminds me that I've got to get on ebay and buy as many pairs of my glasses that I can find. I found a pair awhile ago to replace my scratched up ones....I figure I should just buy a few extra pairs and keeped them stocked up before I can't find them anymore.

my eyes are really sensitive to light and the polarized lenses didn't do shit. I took them back, got new lenses, and had them darkened as much as they possibly could be and then sent off to have an anti-glare coating put on them (I recommend this). Haven't had a better pair of sunglasses. They're ray bans, they have stood up great for the past 2.5 yrs. I keep them in the case when i'm not wearing them though.

I've had the same pair of Oakleys since HS... like 1998-ish. It's called I don't let them out of my site or lay them down in foreign places. To each their own though, I guess.

I second Natives, I have the Dash Xp's. All of the lenses are replaceable and easy to clean. Plus, lifetime warranty. I've gotten them for my girlfriend and she loves them and her dad got a pair as well. They're the best sunglasses ever...in the history of the world.

maui jims are very good on the eyes. i've had one pair or another for about the past 10 years. their customer service rocks. a friend of mine got a new pair about a month ago and he sat on them hours after getting them up at crabtree. he wrote them a letter, shipped the broken ones back, and hoped for the best. 2 weeks later, they sent him a new pair (free) for the cost of shipping.

On the cheaper side I've always liked Anarchys. The Supreme II was tough as hell, I dropped a pair from the Cox third floor stairwell down on the the cement bottom, went down and popped the lens back in and they were good as new.

My Raybans have been pretty good to me too.

Maui Jim Waimea Bay

http://www.sunglasses-int.com/R404-10.html

I did my homework several months ago and no one, absolutely no one, has better polarized lenses than Maui Jim. This pair is stylish and generally affordable. I bought mine at an optometrist's office and everyone there said they have the best lenses you can get without a percripition. I consider them some of the best money I've ever spent due to how much better I feel after a long drive wearing them. It's like night and day compared to other brands. My girlfriend and I drove down from New Hampshire in July and whoever was driving would wear them...she now calls them the "magic sunglasses". Everyone who tries them on goes "whoa...these are nice!".

I can't give a stronger endorsement of Maui Jim...go check some out yourself.
