^^The Falcons (and I don't like Vick cause he always beats my Panthers) picked a player who almost singlehandedly led his team to a national championship (they lost the national title game)...Bush was a product of an amazing offensive line, a good QB, great receivers, a solid defense

and when it really really counted and they really needed him, Lendale White was in the backfield

don't compare Vick and Bush...they're both fast, thats about it...Vick has shown he can win games...Bush hasn't shown shit yet

Bush:

Ticket Sales
Jersey Sales
Fan Excitement
Draw Interest to your team
Lots of potential to be a star

Compared to Mario"

Piss of your fan base
Lots of potential to be a star

Now which do you honestly think is the correct choice AT THAT TIME?

a team that sorta prescribes to your school of thought, tuck: the knicks. tons of star power, plenty of potential jersey sales and marketability. the problem: they suck as a team. instead of just gettin big names, they need to focus on getting what they need. if they did, they might just end up winning.

Well since the Texans dont have one star on that team, I dont think that would have been an issue.

Then they should have drafted a badass O-lineman then right? Oh, but wait, they didn't.

Can't win if you can't score. Gotta get that O-line first when it comes to linemen.

well i agree that OL is one of the most important parts of a team, but i'm not a GM. they can try to build on whichever side of the ball they want.

look at the bears. they already had a good D and a bad offense, and did well. they went and drafted all defensive players in the draft and their offense is turnin the corner.

All I know is, if I was Mario Williams, I'd be done rolling up to Rum Runners.

Apparently he doesn't feel the same way.

Reggie Bush is garbage. Mario now has 4.5 sacks at the halfway point of the season.

Texans needed defense (though they also need offense). Mario was a great pick for them.

i wonder if the negative yardage is a result of the bucs quickly getting into the backfield or bush going backwards in attempt to bounce outside

a little bit of both. Jammal Brown is out, and WWL radio has said that on at least one play, the blocking broke down quickly. But with a long run of 2, they can't always be at fault.

The sooner the Saints start using him as a starting WR and a 3rd down back or occasional spell for Deuce the sooner they will get their money's worth out of him.

He will just go back to overall record I'm sure

Because when Mario gets a sack and helps hold a good Giants offense to minimal points in a loss, he is a shitty pick

When Bush rushes for negative yards in a win, he is the resurrection of Christ

the PTI guys just defended Mario for doing the jumpshot, and said for people to get off his back about being the 1st pick, and that he was playing great.

And Jaws basically said that Bush has been terrible.

What a quality bump.

That was just an impressive display of obstinate stupidity. I can't believe I didn't post in this thread. I was on board with taking Mario #1 and though Bush and VY would be busts. Bush was always too small to be a feature back, VY is historically dumb for a QB (i believe his wonderlick score was a 6).

Mario didn't turn out to be a HOFer, but the Texans got their money's worth from him and he's now been an NFL starter for a decade.

In his 5 years in Houston he had 53 sacks. He's sitting at 97 for his career, there are only 31 guys with 100+ in NFL history (granted, sacks haven't always been an official stat). He's a 4 time pro bowler and was first team all-pro once.

Bush by comparison has been a disappointment by just about every measure, but he wasn't a bust, he had productive seasons early in his career but at no point was he ever a top flight NFL running back. He's been injury prone and has only managed to top 1000 yards rushing in a season twice. I was honestly shocked to see that he is still on an NFL roster this year.

Good times.

I'm sure others made this argument 10 years ago, but I always looked at it as the Texans drafted what they needed at that time and not based on who they thought would have the best career. The real mistake they made was not trading down if they didn't need a RB or QB.

God mactukizzle is a terrible poster.

Glad I said I was fine with Mario over bush. ~100 career sacks and over $100m earnings pretty clear he was the better pick. Bush was better than most remember in miami and Det just coukdnt stay healthy early

I want mario to get like 25 more career sacks, maybe make a run at hall of fame but he's lagging this season so far

It would be nice, but it's not going to happen. He's got maybe 2 more seasons left in the league. He's still a solid 2 way DE, but his days as a plus pass rusher are gone.
