I have a two year old female Dumeril Boa.
History: They are found only in Madagascar, and are an endangered species.

The snake is about 4.5 feet long and a healthy eater. It is extremely nice after you have it out, but bites at hands that go in the tank.
The snake comes with a 55 gal tank and a wire top. More can be included for more money.

I am asking $220 for the snake and tank.

Can people own endangered species as pets? Or are they just threatened?

once you have it, your pretty much good. selling and buying one can be illegal. all endangered and some exotic animals are banned from importation. doesn't mean you can't get them off the black market.

for example, i am still looking for someone to get me some pirannas. but they are illegal to import apparently and i can find no one to buy them from. anyone know who i can get them from?

Also, there is a difference between captive bred and wild caught for endangered species.

I am not desperate to get rid of her. I will not even consider anything near $100.

too bad you're wrong on so many levels. if you fuck around too much and animal control or worse yet, wildlife officials get on your case, you're fucked. not necessarily the case with this particular animal, however. many animals that come from madagascar are regulated internationally by CITES. this assigns protection status and import/export quotas. this basically regulates the trade of these animals, to an extent. you'd have to check your local/city/county/state regulations on particular animals to determine the legality of such animals. in some places exotics are prohibited outright. in other areas you have regulations requiring you to register your animals. the endangered/threatened/special concern listings are part of the US's regulations. ALL endangered animals are NOT banned from importation. there is a huge market for exotics in the US, europe, and even asia, and it does not require a black market to acquire such animals. of course, there are particular animals from around the world that are highly regulated in the trade, but anything that can make its way to a private owner can be bred, and pretty much anything captive bred is legal, despite its status in the wild.

^My roommates sister had one. They're banned cause if they get loose they can wreck havoc, but I didn't know they were banned in NC?

Oh, and by the way, Dumeril's are not listed as an endangered species on the official list...but they are on Wikipedia's list.

they're banned from all pet trade due to.. hang on

from wikipedia
Quote :
"In mid-2003, due to cross-contamination in a Chicago-area pet store from an unquarantined Gambian pouched rat imported from Africa, several prairie dogs in captivity acquired monkey pox, and subsequently a few humans were also infected. This led the CDC to institute an outright ban on the sale, trade, and transport of prairie dogs within the United States"

^^^ there is some law that get around that by makeing some one have a permit to breed them. only animals that have been "fixed" are allowed on the market for public sale. i think thats how it is but not 100% sure
