for Chuck Amato to start feeling some heat. he needs to hear the same dissatisfaction from the fanbase that Herb got at the beginning of the year (and eventually led him to leave).
either way this game was a loss. even if we had won, would anyone really have enjoyed hearing Chuck's hoarse, raspy voice telling everyone how "this team never gave up, and these kids have so much heart, and you can say what you want about Marcus Stone but he is 7-1 as a starter."
the bottom line is i am fed up with Chuck acting like we are playing real football teams. we just lost to AKRON!!!! Marcus Stone has been horrific (except for the last quarter). If Chuck goes has another 6, 5, or 4-win regular season (which is VERY possible) he should be gone. there has been to much money poured into this program for his empty promises and terrible results. 9/9/2006 5:03:08 PM |

I'm sure that he feels the heat already. I think he gets a bad shake because the media knew that we'd suck this year, and our typical overly high expectations make him look bad when the media is right.
Face it, we have a crappy quarterback. Burke needs PT, stat.
We lost 5 incredibly important players on our defense. Everyone ignored the fact after we shut down App State. You don't lose that much of your defense and expect to have a great defense the next year.
Our O-line is weak. We'll never have a consistent offense until we solidify the line. Plain and simple. We've been able to recruit some last year, but they're not ready to go yet. Aside from the O-line, Stone dictates how well we play. We can't run with a crappy O-line. We can't run with a crappy quarterback. All we can do is run.
People say we have talent...but I don't see it there on the field. I guess you can blame Chuck for that. Whatever. 9/9/2006 5:37:30 PM |

This has nothing to do with being picked last and losing players to the NFL.
Our QB situation has been the worst in the nation for 3 years. I mean absolute incompetence there. Something isn't clicking. I can take a loss where we just weren't the better team, but 3 years watching middle-school calibre quarterbacks isn't going to cut it.
I wouldn't mind finishing last if we actually showed some kind of competence under center. This is ridiculous, and has been since Rivers left. 9/9/2006 5:46:53 PM |

we need patience. You can't build a National Powerhouse in the toughest conference overnight. You can't build a top 25 team in the toughest conference overnight. We've had both of these overnight under Chuck Amato. Personally, if last season was a "down year" like so many people have said then I like our program's direction. If you consider a 7-5 year as not good enough in the most powerful conference in the nation, then you need a lesson in reality anyway.
Bottom line: If we'd beaten UNC the last couple of years, nobody would be bitching. It was only after the UNC "loss" in Chapel Hill two years ago that I remember anti-Chuck crowd emerging. 9/9/2006 6:12:58 PM |

^^^^ You're missing the point.
Mr. Rivers brought NC State to a top 25 team overnight. How do I know this? Our down has gone down the crapper ever since he left. That's proof positive the coach wasn't the reason we were top 25 then, and now that we're continuing to lose to sub-par teams like UNC and Akron, it's just glaringly obvious Chuck isn't doing ANYTHING to spin this ship back in the right direction.

i'm not trying to take away from those two players, but a coach, by definition, will usually do more for a program than a good player.9/9/2006 6:21:22 PM |

I have heard that Chuck has been hard to deal with by other coaches. He seems to be more of a PR/Motivator type leader and not a real X's and O's coach. We really need an X's and O's coach if we're going to replace Chuck.
IMO, if we couldn't get Cowher, go all out for Wake Forest's football coach, Skip Holtz or the head coach at Miami of Ohio (NCSU grad and former player who has done wonders with that program) 9/9/2006 6:21:55 PM |
msb2ncsu All American 14033 Posts user info edit post |
No way we can pull Shane Montgomery from MiamiOH right now. Skip Holtz and Grobe would be a backwards move. Cowher will not be retiring for at least 5 more years and he will never coach in college. 9/9/2006 6:24:03 PM |

Look at what Jim Grobe has done with Wake. He makes the most out of his players.
Skip has improved ECU's performance and MiamiOH's coach is just awesome.

i agree with that. watching jay davis trot on the field game after game was downright painful. one of my few gripes with chuck has to do with his stubbornness and reluctance to make a change. jay davis shouldn't have played nearly as long as he did, hes not a quarterback. stone shows more promise (though that not saying much). he did have a decent 3rd/4th quarter... i think he had about 7 completions in a row at one point.

hes obviously not the the best coach in the nation, or the acc...but he has done alot for our program. im glad he came here, i can tell you that.

I'm thinking down the road a little. Hypothetically with the way the people are with Amato, we'll fire him or he'll quit in 2010, by then Shane will have enough experience under his belt. Also, Miami of Ohio is a recruiting goldmine for future NCAA Div 1 powerhouse coaches. I beleive Larry Coker (Miami), Jim Tressel (Ohio State) and Mack Brown (Texas) all coached there before moving to bigger schools. 9/9/2006 7:53:52 PM |

You do realize that Herb was/is a great coach, and you didn't get a coach near as good as him. I hope it takes 5 years of not being ranked, or going to the tourney for you people to realize this.
YOU ARE NOT DUKE, YOU ARE NOT UNC, and no matter who coaches your basketball team, you will never compete or be close to them. Get over it.
