AK-47 variant, smaller than i expected and not a whole lot of recoil.

me getting excited about shooting the FAL, I had a hard time getting a decent grip/stance with this gun for some reason.

Between all of us we fired several hundred rounds. My right shoulder is kinda sore. That G3 is the hotness, the weight cuts down on the recoil and the hk "slap" sold me.

Stiletto, not sure about the designation, they kept referring to it as a "cetme" which, as far as i know was a spanish manufacturer that produced an early "G3" model before the germans took it as their own.

Ah yes, the CETME. The history of the CETME/G3/HK91 family is pretty weird.

The eggheads in Germany were on the way to deploying a roller-delayed blowback assault rifle, the StGw45, when the war ended. They left the country (I think they were going to wind up in Soviet-occupied Germany), and wound up in Spain. The STG45 became the CETME. The designers eventually made their way back to Germany, joined up with Heckler & Koch, and cleaned the design up a little bit into the G3/HK91.

There are a lot of interchangeable parts between the two guns, and I still haven't quite figured out how to tell the two apart. I think the only really obvious difference is that the CETME has a weird propeller style rear sight (and I think a tapered front sight post) where the HK91 has the rotating drum rear sight and a square front post.

in reference to the "keep your finger off the trigger comments"....yes, you should abstain from placing your finger on the trigger until ready to fire. But the kid obviously knew the guns were unloaded and as far as I can tell not pointed at anyone. I mean if we all adhered strictly to such rule, the term "dry-fire" wouldn't exist.

I've always been tempted to pick up a CETME, you can find them at gun shows for relatively cheap (compared to the HK version at least).

I've got the same mauser and its a blast to shoot, very accurate and sounds like a cannon.

My other bolt action (my favorite) is a WWII vintage Japanese model 99 7.7mm rifle. I picked it up for a few hundred several years back before I realized how scarce ammo is for it. Now whenever I shoot it I'm spending between $1.50 and $2.00 per bullet.

Yeah, the main Soviet designations are M91/30, M38, M44, and M91/59, as far as I can tell. I can't keep track of all the revisions right before the M91/30 standard, though.

Also, I hear the most accurate M-Ns are generally the Finn M28 and M39 tied for first, with the Russian M91/59 coming in right behind. Shorter full-weight barrel -> rigid, or something like that.

I've never had much affection for the CETME, it always seemed that every one I tried didn't shoot to POA.
However, I'm looking into a PTR91 at the moment.

That Ak looks like a WASR. I've got the SAR-1, the variant from Romania with dimples I've put several thousand down the pipe since I've had it.

Was out at the range this weekend ringing the 300 yard gong with a Ruger M77 and Bushy M4gery, among other things..

Glocks, XDs, and USPs all have reputations for still functioning despite inane amounts of filth.

Frankly, that kind of dirt resistance strikes me an unnecessary (being an urban kind of guy), but whatever.

Go to a range, try a few out. PDHSC has some you can rent to play with.

Simple question, I'm going to take the couse for my CCL in December, and need to move the pistol from my home to my car, then take in the car to the range, then take it home again. How do I do that without being in violation of the law?

1. How do you move it from house to car and car to range without concealing or carrying to the public fear

2. How do you store it in the car (trunk unloaded in a case, backseat unloaded in plane view, etc)

In NC, open carry is legal, so having your handgun loaded on the dashboard is legal, albeit stupid. You may leave it lying on the seat, so long as it remains in plain view. Plain view is not the safest way to have a firearm in the vehicle, ie, accident and a gun is flying around your car.. , so most people lock it in the trunk, which is the preferred inaccessible place for it to be. At the officer's discretion, locked in the console/glovebox might be ok, but I prefer not to rely on officer discretion.

I have an NC CHP, so I carry it in a holster between seat and console.

I don't think anyone has ever actually gotten convicted for "going armed to the terror", actually. At least not for having an openly-displayed pistol in a holster.

Also, the cops I've talked to (admittedly, other gun nuts like me), even in the Raleigh area, say that a lot of those calls get dismissed with a "that's legal, ma'am" and then nothing happens.

You would probably catch hell for walking around with an AK or AR slung over your back, though.

i've never had a problem w/ open carry. i've been in walmarts w/ a 45 on my side an never had anything said or even any cops say anything to me. most of these time has been when i was back home( not uncommon to see ppl w/ guns on their side) but i have done it w/o thinking one day after i left PD&HSC i'd been at the range and left it on my side. me and some buddies had to stop by walmart so i jumped outta the truck and walked right in.
