Quote : | "Packers agree to deal with troubled receiver Robinson
Koren Robinson wasted his second chance with the Minnesota Vikings. The Green Bay Packers are giving him a third, however.
The Packers on Monday agreed to terms with the wide receiver, who was released by the Vikings during training camp after he was arrested following a high-speed chase.
The receiver, who made his first trip to the Pro Bowl as a kick returner last season and signed a three-year, $12.7 million contract extension in March, was one of the Vikings' few bright spots last year.
Former coach Mike Tice convinced Robinson to sign with the team following a stint in an alcohol treatment facility in North Carolina, and the player rewarded Tice's faith with one of the best seasons of his up-and-down five-year career.
But as soon as things started looking up for the oft-troubled Robinson, he was back in jail.
His blue BMW sedan was caught on radar going more than 100 mph in a 55 mph zone on the night of Aug. 15, as he tried to get from the Twin Cities back to the team's training camp headquarters in Mankato for curfew.
When police tried to pull him over, Robinson refused to stop, police said. A high-speed chase ensued, and the criminal complaint said a field test measured Robinson's blood-alcohol content at 0.11 percent.
It was the latest in a long line of alcohol-related problems for Robinson, who pleaded guilty to DUI while with the Seattle Seahawks in 2005 and was suspended for four games in 2004 for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
The former first-round draft pick appeared to turn his life around last season in Minnesota, emerging as a leader on a team that badly needed some good influences. His teammates voted him the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award and happily watched him work his way up the depth chart at receiver. He had 22 catches for 347 yards and one touchdown in five starts last season and entered this year as the team's No. 1 receiver.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Favre has the "dynasty curse" so he's screwed. If you dropped him into another team that has talent and experience, he'd be in superbowl contention but since he's been in Green Bay forever, he has to roll with the punches. 9/11/2006 6:55:24 PM |

What the fuck else are you going to do when you are naturally talented and wealthy (not that he is , he never lasts through a large contract) ?
Its no wonder actors, singers, and athletes use drugs. There is nothing else to do.

K-rob in Green Bay is funny because there has to be a 1000 little shitty beer holes all over that town. Plus there isn't much else to do especially for a young black guy in a town like Green Bay. I predict he'll be back in rehab or in prison by Dec. 9/12/2006 11:35:50 AM |

I see this as a GREAT pickup for Green Bay. Their receivers are HORRIBLE...and K-Rob proved last year that he is a difference maker. He was key in Minnesota's late season run.
He's a fuck-up, but Green Bay sucks and they have nothing to lose. 9/12/2006 2:10:07 PM |

Quote : | "Robinson sentenced to 90 days in jail for repeat DUIESPN.com news services
KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Green Bay Packers wide receiver Koren Robinson was sentenced Wednesday to 90 days in jail for violating probation in a drunken driving case.
Robinson Robinson appeared in Municipal Court in this Seattle suburb, where he pleaded guilty last year to drunken driving.
At the time, he was given a five-year sentence that was suspended on condition he not drink or have any other law violations.
The former first-round draft pick was then released by the Seattle Seahawks and signed by the Minnesota Vikings.
But Robinson was charged with drunking driving again after he was stopped for speeding in August in Minnesota near the Vikings' training camp, leading to Wednesday's hearing. He was released by the Vikings after that incident, and picked up by Green Bay last month.
Judge Robert McSeveney, a visiting judge from nearby Kent, sentenced Robinson to 90 days in jail, and said he could spend half of it on work-release.
Robinson must comply with the sentence by next March 1, when another court hearing is scheduled.
In addition to the 90-day jail sentence, Robinson is still subject to a possible suspension from the NFL, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports. There has been no word yet from the league as to what sort of penalty, if any, it will hand out.
Robinson's attorney, John Fox, admitted Robinson failed to report his change of address and change of employment status to the probation office.
"The real question is whether this case should be continued," McSeveney said. "Certainly you have other issues going on in other states."
"I know Mr. Robinson intends to comply," Fox said.
"You are not in a position not to comply," McSeveney replied, addressing Robinson. "I would make it real clear to you that there is no waffle in that."
Robinson declined comment after the 10-minute hearing. Fox did not immediately return a telephone message left by The Associated Press.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Robinson was not at practice on Wednesday because of his legal situation, but hoped Robinson would return on Thursday.
Speaking before Robinson's sentence was handed out, McCarthy said he expected Robinson to be available for Sunday's game against the St. Louis RamsSt. Louis Rams but wasn't sure about his long-term future.
"I don't have any information as far as a decision that's to be made," McCarthy said. "We'll know more when he gets back." " |
