whiner there is as a college coach?
in an N&O article today he is telling everyone that Akron is allowed to have non-qualifiers on their team b/c the MAC allows their schools to take those kids. He was saying that those kids make a big difference. The article says that they had three last year and ONE this year. I don't care if they have 10 of them, it doesn't seem to bother all of the other teams that beat Akron most every week outside of their conference.
http://www.newsobserver.com/122/story/485335.html
this article just upsets me b/c it makes it shows Amato whining the entire time, trying to defend the program.
i wish he would just one time do what i just saw art shell do on sportscenter in his postgame: "I didn't not prepare my team well enough to play the Chargers today and I take responsibility for that" he has never done that. he always tries to defend the program after every loss and say how good the other team was. 9/12/2006 10:12:38 AM |

Okay this is pretty ridiculous on his part. I think the 3-4 partial qualifiers they have are offset by the multimillion dollar facilities we have that help attract 4 star qualifiers.
On the other hand, I am gaining more respect for Chuck.
If i were him I would have thrown Marcus Stone under the bus by now just to take the heat off me. 9/12/2006 10:16:11 AM |

I didn't even though that the MAC allowed partial qualifiers b/c I had never heard another coach say anything about it or complain about it before. It didn't seem to bother Penn St. when they beat them by 20; and we know that PSU isn't all that great b/c of what happened against Notre Dame.
either way, if Akron had beat PSU I seriously doubt you would have heard Joe Pa after the game say that it wasn't fair b/c all of the partial qualifiers that they have made a difference. 9/12/2006 10:22:36 AM |

if you dont have to havea a subscription, go to packpride.com and listen to the audio with chuck.
Fast forward to 15 minutes and listen to the questions that were asked. It was Chip Alexander from the N & blow and he fucking baited him with a question, chuck answered it in the only way possible to not look like he was disrespecting his opponent... chip kept asking the same question cause chuck didnt want to answer, and chuck finally gave him what he wanted.
Chuck sounds like a dick a little, and he shouldnt have brought up partial qualifiers, but when you here how the questions were asked you cant blame him for what he did. It was totally absurd that a reporter could ask questions in such a manor. 9/12/2006 10:30:26 AM |

They played it on 620 this morning and Chuck sounded like a studdering idiot looking for excuses. "Our facility hasn't been around for 20 years guys"---yeah well it has had several nice additions that have been around for a couple of years, like the Murphy center. 9/12/2006 10:35:19 AM |

i came here in the fall of 03.
03 season - with philip rivers we have a mediocre season for what its worth, go to the tangerine bowl wreck shit end of story. immediately i begin to question amato as a coach.
04 season - dont even make a fuckin bowl game. amato knew damn well philip wasnt gonna be here forever and showed me he was very unprepared, which is absolutelyfuckinridiculous.
05 season - with a top defensive unit in the country manage the meineke car care bowl with another lackluster season. this is mostly because of issues at the qb position.
chuck has had 5-6 years to recruit a quality qb from a year or 2 before phil left up until now, and we havent seen shit. with nearly every team ive seen under chuck (minus 02) we have expended energy recruiting on only one side of the ball and god knows if chuck even does any coaching (from what ive heard from his own players, he doesnt do much).
weve put up with this shit for way too long. we have so much unused talent, and i dont know if these guys werent right for college football, or if our coaching staff fucking sucks, but something isnt right, and hasnt been for a few years. somehow chuck bullshits from interview to interview and gets away with it and saves his job. its bullshit. chuck amato is a joke and a poor reflection on this university.

Chip said something along the lines of "you said you shouldnt lose to a team like Akron at home"
Chuck replied "I never said that"
Chip: Should you? Chuck: Whats that suppsed to mean? A lot of teams might lose to Akron before the end of the year, ask me again at the end of the season.
Chip: bash bash bash bait bash bait bash you shouldnt lose to Akron at home Chuck: they're in a good league, they're a conference champion, they went to a bowl last year. Chip: bash bait bash bait you shouldnt lose to Akron at home Chuck: Their conference allows non qualifiers....you know what kind of players non qualifiers are? Their GPA is inversely proportional to their skill level. Just a few can make a big difference, there are very good players that dont qualify by NCAA rules. (he was saying this to get across the point that Akron has very good players and they're a good team, so stfu chip!) Chip: bash bait bash bait mumble jumble Chuck: we should not have lost that game, I wont say that we shouldnt lose to a team like Akron.
Thats basically how it went, chuck was mad, but was very composed, didnt hesitate to give responses like he already knew what chip was going to say, and didnt really sound stupid when he gave the response like he does sometimes when he tries to get out of a question. I think the whole point is that he tried to answer without disrespecting Akron, then he brought up non qualifiers to shut up chip. Sure enough, chip writes about it.9/12/2006 11:01:22 AM |

well ive been here since i was born
you can not make a case that we are a better coached team now than we were before amato got here, nor can you even say that we are coached as well now as we were his first two years
its all about the assistants
doesnt anyone remember when he used to say, "we dont have fsu talent here, we have to win with discipline."
and we did
we outcoached other schools, and we had more discipline than other schools.
where did it go? 9/12/2006 11:01:58 AM |

It's a rebuilding year. We aren't FSU or miami yet. We have to rebuild. Other programs reload.

i expected chuck, just as any other coach would, to recruit and develop a quality quarterback behind phil. that way when we had a sicknasty defense, we probably would have done better than 6-5. im not asking for a national championship, but some sort of progress, and in 3 years we have made none.

to chuck's defense in QB recruiting...he had Brent Schaeffer lined up to come in as soon as Rivers left. He did a good job recruiting that guy. Schaeffer screwed us and went to TN...so we got stuck w/ Davis and Stone. 9/12/2006 11:15:19 AM |

sure, but part of recruiting your star guy is showing him that he's gonna be "the guy". How secure is he gonna be about coming to your school if you're signing another 4 star QB too?
Look at what Lowe's doing with Chris Wright...he's putting all his eggs in that basket in hopes that it will show Wright that Lowe wants to make him "the guard". 9/12/2006 11:18:40 AM |

like who? chow, Holliday?
chow left to be near the family and took a large step up
Holliday went to Florida and took a large step up.
And sure there were issues of ego where chuck clashed with certain coaches, but that's to be expected.

I came in when Amato came in. I have family members that have played with Chuck and family memebers that have played with Sheridan, plus hearing from players with the aforementioned coaches (not just those related to me)---it has gone downhill since he's been here. Chuck needs to go. Head coaching is a lot harder than he thought.
