I can't get to webmail, my CSC236 course locker, or anything else -- is it their servers, or just my connection? 9/12/2006 11:11:10 AM |

chit chat forum had posted a bit of info saying it was a service provider router hardware issue...
i wonder what kind of SLA they offer since a hardware issue caused this major outtage, no redundancy? 9/12/2006 1:35:34 PM |

Took down our office as well. Sometimes it sucks to be hooked up to NC State's bandwidth!
Most of the time it's fun though. 9/12/2006 2:56:43 PM |

What happened on Tuesday was an unexpected hardware failure at NCSU's network service provider. Sometimes stuff like that happens, even with good planning and monitoring. Personally, I'm pleased that they were able to get a significantly large piece of equipment replaced, configured, and service restored in about 2 hours. I've seen similar outages at for-profit companies (Web hosting providers come to mind) that have taken most of a day to correct.
It's worth noting, too, that most all of NCSU's computing resources came back up almost immediately after the network outage. I'm pleased to see that it didn't cause that many additional problems for folks. 9/14/2006 2:14:09 PM |

yeah I didn't mind the downtime, especially when I've been on the network at least daily for over a year and can only recall one other outage (about 3 weeks ago, for approx 20 minutes or so)
I just like to know what's going on, so I know if I should panic about not being able to access my homework a couple hours before it's due 9/14/2006 2:17:08 PM |

eh, i'm not complaining...but the intarweb here at wolf village (at least in my room) has been acting strange all day...i could get on aim, but it wouldn't let me do anything browser-wise
i reset my router, restarted computers, nothing worked...but it's working now, so i'm happy 9/14/2006 6:56:57 PM |
