what are you gents doing, if anything, to save/replenish the hair on your head? i still have most of mine, but from what i've seen everytime i run my fingers through my hair, its not going to last too long.

i figured this was the right section for such a topic

I stopped using Head and Shoulders because I heard it makes you go bald faster.

That's about it.

^^^ is it thinning all over the place or just in the front or just on top?

generally speaking though, I think an immediate course of action is to start using Nioxin products which are available in salons or on eBay for a big discount. Get the shampoo, conditioner and dabble with the other stuff if you want. I've heard this stuff works well if you use it consistantly (for years of course).

not entirely true. i'm about 95% sure that gene you speak of controls male pattern baldness only...doesn't have anything to do with thinning hair in general and receding hairlines.

^^ make sure you get the conditioner too and use it. thats where the magic happens...and don't expect to see a difference until at least 6 months

_____

I used propecia for a while - it stopped the loss and maybe even brought back some hair, but spending $90/mo. on that versus spending $6/mo. on some razor blades made the decision for me.

i remember when propecia came out there were risks for birth defects for pregnant women if they even TOUCHED the pills

so if any of you are taking it and have a wife or something that is either pregnant or trying to be, talk to the doc

every time i get a hair cut i notice my forehead is getting larger and larger. therefore the time interval between haircuts is getting longer and longer. when/if it ever gets to combover stage i'll probably just have to rock the castanza look.

My husband's hair is thinning on top and it took me a while to get him to admit to it. I even took pictures of the top of his head to prove to him that his hair was thinning. I asked him what he was going to do about it and he said that he didn't care because it's not like anyone sees the top of his head anyway. (He's 6'5.) I think I care more about his balding head than he does.

I can indeed post in here.

I accepted my fate over 2 years ago.

I like having a shaved head better than the thin, frizzy prone, mop I had before I shaved it.

^i have been thinking of shaving my head lately...i'm in the early stages of hair thinning and when i get out of the shower i can really notice it...i'm affraid of shaving it really short though cause i figured it would erode even quicker

idk i think it'd probably look nicer if i shaved it though

Ever since I was 3 I've had alopecia areata, an autoimmune problem which causes patches of hair to fall out. Nothing really worked for me until they did cortizone injections. I don't know if they do it for general hair loss because it would be so many shots. It's great because you go in, they do about 6 injections per square inch just under the skin, and then you can forget about it. I had a hard time keeping up with the creams and junk as a kid, but this stuff works every time.

I used Rogaine for a while right out of college. Noticed some male pattern balding around age 22. It stained stuff so I quit using it (pillowcase, hats, etc). My hair kind of filled back in on its own. I'm not sure if its b/c I had to stop wearing hats all the time b/c I worked (I know thats an urban myth, but I could see it maybe pulling some hairs out when you take it off/on). Could've been I was laid off and stress free on unemployment for a year.

Anyways, around 25 or so I noticed some receeding in my hairline. Got a prescription for propecia. It ran about $60 month. Took it for a year. Didn't notice a huge change, but the receeding did stop. I'm now off Propecia b/c I got married so I no longer have to worry about going bald. For those that are, I recommend getting married fast, you can get someone hotter now than you can bald.

Propecia is really a spin-off on a drug that was to help prostate health. Its actually healthy for you to take it. Their really is no "generic" that I know of unless things changed. The "generic" is the prostate medicine. I believe you 1/2 the prostate medication and it equals 1 propecia. Getting a doctor to do this is somewhat unethical (for the MD), so unless you have a hookup or a good relationship, its probably not going to happen.

yeah, I have started using "2" when i get my hair cut, it was way way way short the first time, shortest it has ever been, and of course short hair=shows balding worse.....

I dont really care, I knew as a teenager that I was probably going to loose some of my hair...if you mother's dad has a full head of hair, you most likely will...my mom's dad didnt have much hair. Plus, my older cousins all started loosing it in there 30s, and I will be there in a few years. I am just gonna cut it short I think and say fuck it....my brother in law lost most of his hair in his late 20s, now he is bald and has a goattee so he looks like a damn wrestler now....
