I am wanting to connect several of the broadband devices in my entertainment system to the cable modem in my house. I have an ethernet cable running from the computer to the enetertainment center. (it's currently just plugged into the xbox360) I want to be able to connect the 360, and xbox, a wii (eventutally) and potentially one other device.
What do I want to do here? Can I just use a hub in this situation? I want to make sure that both of the xbox's can still see my computer (acting as a server).
thanks for the help! 9/14/2006 12:16:17 PM |

Assuming that you computer is acting as a server and is handing out all the IP addresses a switch or hub should do just what you need. 9/14/2006 12:48:14 PM |

right now, its running from the modem to a linksys router. the router has one wire hitting my comp and one hitting the entertainment center. I want to split the one at the entertainment center into 4 additional connections. 9/14/2006 1:10:57 PM |

you'd need a switch 9/14/2006 1:15:25 PM |

Get an 8-port switch if you want to allow for future expansion. I've never hooked up a console to a router, but if you can do static IPs, that woudl be the way to go. 9/14/2006 1:27:50 PM |

^ yeah, especially for stuff like that. Switches are more expensive, but worth it for what you're doing. 9/14/2006 5:09:42 PM |
