So far, yeah. Haven't read too much of it yet, though.

HUGE HUGE fan of Name of the Rose and Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana, a little less so of Foucault's Pendulum.

^^ Read City of Glass, it's amazing. It's the first of 3 in the New York Trilogy.

The play was amazing. I think that it was the only one Hemingway did, but wow. I just started the short stories last night.

Laughter in the Dark by Nabokov..barely into it yet, though.

anyone pick up the new Chabon book yet? Not that I care for a review, I'ma buy it anyway.

^^^"exhausting" is a gross understatement. I tried so hard to convince myself I liked him, until I realized that he was more or less fucking with me.

Pynchon is absolutely worth it in the end, but I just can't fly through most of his books.

Depending on my mood, I am alternating between:
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Homage to Catalonia by Orwell
James Joyce by Patrick Parrinder
& Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (filling my Joyce void. I finished Ulysses just a few months ago!)

I've been thinking about picking up "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. Any recommendations or thoughts on it?

I know StillFuchsia mentioned it a few pages back.

^^ It's good, though I found the ending completely inappropriate for the way the novel was shaping up. It's touching in some parts, bleak in others: I liked it better than his other novels, mostly because it wasn't a Western.

It weirds me out that Oprah chose it for her book club.

^all I know is it was about the 6 millionth book set in a post-Apocalyptic world to win the Pulitzer for Fiction

So I'd probably love it (given my love for Vonnegut, Malamud, Huxley, etc.)

I'm reading this:

^It's fucking amazing, so long as you can get used to his writing style, of course: the punctuation is sparse and the dialogue is likewise all crammed together.

But it's so good: I mean, what would happen if the entire world suddenly went blind?

^^^ Yeah, I typically like that sort of thing, too, which is why I was thinking about picking it up. Might have to go ahead and do it once I get a little extra spending money.

Thanks.

Just finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

A little less mind-blowing than I'd expected (okay, A LOT less mind-blowing), but it was still really good, and I was so into it that I read it in about two or three sittings. I've been so busy lately it's been hard to make time to read, so it was nice to have something I could knock out in a couple of days.

I took the O sticker off before I went to the register.

It's not so much that I hate Oprah, it's that I hate it takes Oprah telling people to read The Grapes of Wrath to get it on the bestseller list.

Ditto.

Though I think John Darnielle should call her and tell her to pick The Canterbury Tales. 'Cause then his song might work out.

I finished Blindness, and I'm now rereading The Hour of the Star (Lispector), which I still love.

After that, I'll probably go with Farewell Waltz (Kundera).
