Hey guys, earl here. Im just curious to know some of your pet peeves behind the wheel. I absolutely hate when those dad-gom bicycle riders hog the road man. I really don't understand why they do that?!?! they honesly put themselves in danger. Just ride on the side walk geez.
I meant DRIVING not DRINING I wish i could edit that title. My bad.

neither is a 45mph highway. our roads were created for transportation, not recreation. Quit being a fucking pussy and mountain bike instead. When you have to stop every 5 minutes of your trip on the trails because some cunt-rag hiker wants to take up the whole trail, you'll finally understand.

Biggest Pet Peeve: Drivers who accelerate on the interstate while you are trying to pass them. It's like they're doing 10 under the speed limit but miraculously speed up to 10 over while you're overtaking them. Drives me nuts. 9/19/2006 11:32:46 PM |

ok, here's my deal w/ bikes. if i'm riding a bike, i ride on the sidewalk. ppl riding on the street piss me the fuck off. second point is that ppl riding a bike will get FUCKED UP by a car. i for one do not want to be said fucked up biker. so i ride on the sidewalk, like a smart person. the worst that can happen to me there is i hit a person. i don't die that way.
and pet peeve: merging. the lane is there for you to speed up, not to drive in until it ends and you stop, holding up a whole interstate's worth of traffic. honestly, when i see people slow/stop on a merge lane i want to fucking kill them. ergh

People who accelerate when you pass them (so you just over-over-over accelerate and speed like an asshole to get back into your lane).
Women drivers that tailgate.
People that drive with cell phones on their ears. I understand receiving a call and answering a quick question, but driving for miles and miles with a cell phone on your head is unnecessary. It's a damned dangerous distraction that keeps you from driving properly. It's also unnecessary because you can get a hands-free device for cheap (which at least lets you have your hands on the wheel if not your mind focused on the road).
People who think that the world is Need For Speed Underground 2, justifying all the tacky, useless addons they have on their car.
People who drive 15 under.
Binary drivers (slam on the brake, floor the gas).
People who speed more than 7 over in a construction zone (slowing down a little for two miles wouldn't kill anyone, and it'd certainly be appreciated by the people who work there/have worked there).
People who run stop signs...
People who nearly run bikers over acting like they don't have to yield any part of the lane (I'm not a biker, but you should at least give them a half a lane when passing).
Cyclists who don't ride on the right side (realistically a car cannot stay in the left lane on a 2-lane road long enough to pass you, so give them enough room to scoot over when they pass. this'll prevent somebody from being a dick and knocking you off into the trees). Also, cyclists who cut straight through lanes with little or no warning while going about 10mph through 50mph traffic. I nearly killed somebody who did this once when they just kind of drove on over into my lane while at the same time raising their hand to signal to change lanes (signaling is great, but you usually do it before you take action so people can get out of the way).
Soccer moms (GET OUT OF MY WAY I HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP... impatient fools).
People that stop on free-flowing merges...
People that don't adjust to let people on the highway...
People trying to get on the highway that don't try to cooperate with people in the other lanes (usually these people just roll over into traffic cutting somebody off, or they'll drive through the gore area and punch it to get on the highway, nearly killing themselves and the people in the car behind them).
Old people (I know sunday drives are nice, but on interstate highways they just aren't safe).
People wearing headphones while driving (good lord this one scares me).
People driving at night/in the rain/at sunset without headlights on.
People driving with large dogs in their laps (secure the dog or keep it in the backseat. A dog walking around the car is dead in a wreck, but one in a dog cage in the back should have a better chance of surviving, as well as not interfering with the driver).
People doing sketchy shit to themselves while driving (skeet skeet skeet).
People driving cars with rims that are worth more than the car itself.
This is all just random annoying driving shit. I don't have any pet peeves so I just listed everything I could think of off the top of my head... 9/20/2006 1:11:43 AM |

1. People driving in the left lane other than passing people (then pulling back over to the right). This is BY FAR my #1 pet peeve. I don't care if you're going 150 mph...maybe I want to go 151. Get your no driving ass out of the PASSING lane and over to the right where you belong.
2. People who don't pull up into the intersection when waiting to turn left at a light. The crime is ENTERING the intersection after the light turns red--you won't get in trouble for BEING in the intersection after the light turns red. this will keep you from getting hung up at the light and help more people get through the light.
3. bike boys. either get on the sidewalk, a bike trail, or at least a road that isn't heavily travelled. Yes, we all know that you are legally entitled to use the road...if you go out of your way to prove it, though, instead of trying to have as little negative impact as possible on the traffic the road is really intended for...well, I'll probably click it down a couple of gears and blow that chip off of your shoulder on my way by.
4. people who try to merge at less than the speed of traffic. I don't care what the speed limit is--if you are going slower than the flow of traffic (or worse yet, have to slow way down or stop in the merge lane), you're gonna throw everything off and be a pain in the ass at best, and a hazard at worst. I don't care how slow your car is--there's no way it's any slower than my old 4-cyl Jeep, and I could ALWAYS get up to speed in time...you just have to get on the gas (and taking a good line through the onramp can help, but sadly, that's too much of a varsity move for the average driver)
5. People who don't turn right on red when they can.
6. People who turn left across traffic without looking carefully. #1 killer of motorcyclists, and has TWICE in the last year or so caused me to come within a couple of feet of a catastrophic collision, that I never could've avoided had I not been in a sports car (went through a 4 lane intersection sideways at 50 mph on one of them; missed a nearly head-on collision with a dumb, no-driving, left-turning broad in a 3-series by a couple of feet) 9/20/2006 8:41:34 AM |

1) drivers who think they are more important then everyone else and their destination is by far more important then yours, so they feel the need to drive by everyone in a lane that is clearly marked to end in the next couple hundred feet! (hillsborough street, right after Gorman when it cuts down to one lane, and merging onto I-40 from the Durham freeway during heavy traffic). I especially hate the ones that pull out of line behind you and try to pick up a few spaces, why do people let these cars in?
2) people who don't know how 4-way stops work or just think because they have a bigger car then you they have the right-of-way
3) people who think since you drive a motorcycle they automatically have the right-of-way at a 4-way stop!!!!! I have almost been run over at least 5 times on Dan Allen!
4) people who slam on their brakes at a yellow light when you are behind them on your motorcycle. if the light just turned yellow and you are 20 feet from the intersection, everybody is expecting you to stop. A bike can't go from 45-0 in the same amount of space as a car!!! Had to swerve out of my lane twice because of this, luckily for me their was no oncoming traffic either time.
5) I would follow further behind on my bike, but then you have the morons who pull out in front of you when you have more then one car length between you and the vehicle you're following.... when there isn't even anybody behind you!!!!
6) Why do bicyclist choose to ride on the busiest roads? I don't mind them riding on the road, but there are plenty of back roads with way better scenery and a lot less traffic, why do you always choose to ride down the side of a busy 4-lane road during the busiest parts of the day???
7) and of course, PEOPLE WHO DRIVE SLOW IN THE LEFT-LANE, the worst kind are the ones who you tailgate for a mile, then finally switch over to the right-lane and pass, and immeadiately afterwards they decide to switch into the right-lane... makes me wanna slow down and run their ass into the ditch!!! 9/20/2006 11:39:01 AM |

^^i'm talking about people doing things that nearly kill me on a motorcycle
the worst was a guy who almost killed me twice in about 1 minute. i caught him at a light and went to drag him out of his car and kick his ass, but when I got up to his window, I saw that it was a little Asian dude who spoke no English. He still had temp tags on the car. I decided that he probably didn't know any better, and didn't realize that he was driving like a jackass, so I just got up in his (rolled down) window and yelled at him until the light turned green.
and you could've clicked your car down as many gears as you wanted, and you'd never blow by a sportbike. 9/20/2006 3:10:52 PM |

I just got dismissed today from jury duty about a case in which this guy was hit by a car when riding a bike on the side walk.
guy was riding on the sidewalk, crossed the upcoming street via, walk way (inside the chalk lines) car hits him making a right on red. Guy was suing for pain and suffering, medical bill, 1 week missed work. Well he diddnt show up today (thats why the case was thrown out) so we diddnt get to come to a close.
But from what i understand he was in the wrong, for riding on the side walk. The defendants lawyer really ripped him a new one during her cross examination on the guy who was hit. Legally he wasnt protected by any laws or anything. Had he been on the street, it would have been a different story. 9/20/2006 4:11:12 PM |
sumfoo1 soup du hier 41043 Posts user info edit post |
Yep side walks are grey if you're in the street at all though you'd better be acting like a car. and in a cross walk is on the street & on a sidewalk. but the street rules are black & white. so you'd go by them in which case the biker would be running a redlight thus the driver wouldn't be responsible...
for this reason if you're crossing @ a cross walk... take the time to walk your bike accross it or be VERY VERY CAREFUL. 9/20/2006 4:17:10 PM |
