Possibly to UNC?
"Word in the NFL is Butch Davis would love to coach the Dallas Cowboys if Bill Parcells retires. But if that doesn't materialize, he would have interest in several college jobs, including UM and North Carolina." -- Miami Herald 9/20/2006 11:55:40 AM |

I hope Butch comes back down here to Miami.
Classy guy and he knew how to coach and recruit. He won the 2001 Championship, not Coker. 9/20/2006 12:08:10 PM |

I would LOVE to have Shannon as our head coach.
Realistic or unrealistic...my list would go like this...
Cowher Butch Davis Randy Shannon 9/20/2006 12:35:10 PM |

Mike Sciano is shady and is a used car salesman. I'd rather have Randy Shannon. There is still a huge push to get Butch Davis back however.9/20/2006 2:47:04 PM |

If Shannon is struggling to field a good defense with the horses he has at Miami (theri entire secondary was thought to be NFL material preseason), how do you think he would do with our D, epseically since our LBers can convert from RB to LB in 3 days and be named a starter. 9/20/2006 4:01:11 PM |

How many games are you looking at where they've had trouble?? This year against Louisville?? A game or two last year??
I'll take Randy Shannon's overall resume, then you add his recruiting ties in the state of Florida and the fact that he's an African-American (which I think pays big dividends in recruiting). I'd take him right now over Amato.9/20/2006 4:14:31 PM |

I have been putting this guy's name out there since the whole fire Chuck deal got started.
UM wants him back and Coker is on the way out.
Davis will never go to UNC. 9/20/2006 4:31:37 PM |

I was reading somewhere this morning that several members of the board don't want Davis back. Don't remember the reason . . . lets see if I can find the article
and I find it funny that people think Tommy Tuberville would leave what he has at Auburn for Miami

it would be a spotlight upgrade for sure, and probably more money, and probably easier winning

That prospect is laughed at like the possibility of Cowher coming to NC State.
But remember, Tuberville is still pissed about how in 2003 when Auburn officials went to Louisville coach Bobby Petrino right before UofL's bowl game. Luckily for Tuberville, Louisville AD Tom Zurich found out and made a huge stink to the media about Auburn trying to steal their coach and taking a shit on Tuberville and UofL football. Both Auburn officials and Petrino (Tuberville ex-friend) looked like assholes, and rightfully so. Tuberville was pretty much fired from Auburn if Tom Zurich had not gone to the media and the NCAA.
Funny how a year or two later Tuberville is a God at Auburn.
Auburn even canned its president over the fiasco. Not because of the embarrassment that ensued, but because they weren't able to get rid of Tuberville!

Miami had the Pell Grant scandal, which they were punished for, rightfully so, when they had a drunk for a coach (Dennis Erickson) who had Luther Campbell on speed-dial. Yes, I will admit Erickson was a piece of shit, but there is little evidence of cheating otherwise during Schlenberger or Jimmy Johnson. Especially during Butch Davis and Coker. 9/20/2006 8:31:21 PM |

I think Notre Dame has been on probation more recently than Miami.
