I have a SanDisk Cruzer mini, and it recently stopped working on my home computer. I think this has something to do with recent Windows updates, as I have not been able to use it since my computer auto-installed some.
I checked Google, and there are a million different sites that say a million different things to try.
I'm hoping maybe someone else has had this problem and knows how to deal with it. Can anyone tell me the best thing to try first? 9/21/2006 12:40:11 PM |

plug flash drive in, press your windows key(start) and your pause key (top right of the keyboard), this will bring up your system properties tab. Click on Hardware, then Device Manager, this will show you every driver installed for all of your hardware. Check under disk drives, and Universal Serial Bus Controllers and see if you see any red X's or yellow !'s. IF you do, right click on that device and uninstall the driver (Should be mass storage device, or possibly may even say sandisk or something). Once you uninstall it, remove the drive from the usb slot, and then reinsert it -- let XP reinstall it automatically. Generally this will work to get it up and running again if the drive is good 9/21/2006 12:54:29 PM |

Thank you so much for the advice.
The drive is good. It still works on other computers just fine.
I did what you said, and I see no Xs or !s. I clicked properties for the drive, and it says it's working properly. Would it be bad for me to go ahead and uninstall it anyway to see if that works? Or would that just not work anyway? 9/21/2006 1:00:11 PM |

I did ... no dice.
I also used the troubleshoot thing, but it didn't help. It said to check the properties of that and all the USB Root Hubs (or something like that), but they were all working fine. 9/21/2006 1:14:15 PM |

Have you tried a different USB device in that same port/group of ports? 9/21/2006 1:23:14 PM |

Yea with the root hub stuff.... go back to the device manager window, go to Universal Serial Bus controller section, uninstall anything that says Universal Host controller in it.
Then click the magnifying glass at the top of the window in the tool bar (says scan for hardware changes) and it should be able to automatically reinstalll those with no problem.
If you use usb keyboard/mouse, then just reboot your computer from your power button and they will reinstall when you boot back up. 9/21/2006 3:14:28 PM |
