I just read this interesting article called "The Sacred Four" I'm just a little pissed they didnt include Princess Bride in there but I guess it didnt really fit in with the other movies...

wow, i'm dubious of any "sacred four" 80s movies list that doesn't include the karate kid.

mine:

back to the future
the karate kid
teen wolf
return of the jedi

I think they really meant "Four 80s movies I want to make fun of"

Dark Crystal shouldn't bump movies like E.T. off the list. I saw them all when I was a kid except for Legend. I saw that in the past few years though.

Best part of Legend is the song at the end credits. Hilarious shit. The lyrics are like:

"Oh love is pure and saves the world
for goodness sake."

The goodness sake part kills me every time.

Dude the 80's had some SWEET kids movies. Stuff that was dark, but not a complete gore / cheese fest. There's absolutely no modern day comparison.

that guy is just a "total geek from the 80s".
my for indispensible 80s movies:
Back to the Future (easily #1)
Big
The Princess Bride
The Karate Kid

honorable mention to The Breakfast Club, but i was too young for that one when it came out. and HM to Goonies too

Legend rocks. The opening music was stuck in my mind for years until I finally got the movie (on VHS, lol) and the soundtrack.

even though i am a big fan of pretty much anything and everything jim henson dreamed up, i have just never really liked "the dark crystal". when i was little i was scared of the skeksies, and when i got older, i tried watching it again and it made me sleepy.

does anybody remember "the last unicorn"? it was one of my favorites as a kid, but i watched it years later and realized that it's kind of retarded. especially the soundtrack by america.
the book was good, though.

and while i'm here, "the karate kid" was easily one of the best movies of the 80's. cobra kai! strike first! strike hard! no mercy!
