^ also an applied math major.

maple is really handy. it can do much much more than what you did on those dumb maple assignments back in calc.

Maple rocks for doing hardcore integration and differentiation.

i love maple, it's like my calculator for calculus and shit i don't want to bang out on paper but i need to do as part of a larger problem. matlab is better for applied solutions, but maple is quick and easy. it's probably the easiest math program you'll ever use, get used to it.

I took Diffy Q II in Fall 05 with Dr. Norris (the guy who makes up the stupid ass maple homeworks for the calc series) and we had maple homeworks assigned for this class as well. Back then I hated the shit but found maple pretty helpful in mapping out and visualizing the course subject matter.

I also recommend taking this class (MA 401). It is a very interesting class. You learn all about partial differential equations and their solutions. It went hand in hand with my Transport Phenomena class when we got to heat transfer.

I remember Maple. Ahhhh... that was, some time ago.

Actually, I didn't like it at first, but then later on, I ended up relying on it quite a bit.

At least they give you classes to learn Maple. Most of the programs I use now for various courses were pretty much a "Even though you haven't learned anything about this software, this class uses it so learn it right now" type deal.

"Mathematica >> Maple"

the learning curve for mathematica is so much higher, but at least it isn't a bastardized java UI. i think mathematica is better for hardcore visualization..

in MA 401/501 you do some really cool maple stuff. i still have those worksheets, too.

Just because you suck at Maple doesn't mean that Maple sucks. Most likely, it's you who sucks.

i have found maple to be a glorified TI-89 or HP-49g. except that it crashes, has horrible syntax and commands, and a lot less portable.

just download any program for your calculator and your good to go.

The moral of the story, jawomack, is that Maple might seem trivial now but it could be helpful or even crucial in some of your upper level courses.

In the future, freshmen (or any classmen, for that matter) won't get much sympathy on here when complaining about coursework. Take it with a grain of salt 'cause it'll get worse.

I LOVE CHE
