Quote :
"Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore warned hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming: Cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!"

Gore, who was introduced by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, said the world faces a "full-scale climate emergency that threatens the future of civilization on earth."

Gore showed computer-generated projections of ocean water rushing in to submerge the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, parts of China, India and other nations, should ice shelves in Antarctica or Greenland melt and slip into the sea.

"The planet itself will do nicely, thank you very much what is at risk is human civilization," Gore said. After a series of Q& A with the audience, which had little to do with global warming and more about his political future, Annan bid "adios" to Gore.

Then, Gore had his staff opened a stack of cardboard boxes to begin selling his new book, "An Inconvenient Truth, The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It," $19.95, to the U.N. diplomats. "

Read hard science fiction and you'll understand that climate change is real.

At least that's what I've been told in class.

Now, being non-partisan here, you have to say that Al Gore has said more outlandish things than W. W just says stupid things. His sentences don't make any sense, he misunderpronunciates words, etc. Gore is on the dangerous side of stupid. He says crazy ass things, although, grammatically correct.

I mean:

He never effing claimed he invented the internet! The fact that you people keep saying he did is a monument to the ignorance of the far-right.

And sure, he's a little nutty, but I have my suspicions regardling its accuracy. This story will probably end up developing... into thin air.

^^ Dangerous side of stupid, maybe, but not dangerous to the world.

(bring'em on, you are with us or against us, in 2004, saying on polish tv: "we have found the wmds", when all they found was a "mobile lab" which didn't even have an atom of any dangerous chemical, etc)

All drudge does is link to other news outlets. You would know that if you ever visited his site. And the few reports that aren't linked to other news outlets and are his own are generally correct. He's broken quite a few big stories.

No, when you "jump" on a story when no one else has reported it and then leave the words "Developing . . .", you sometimes get stories wrong.

Which, along with his pro-Right bias, is a main criticism of the Drudge Report.

drudgereport is no better than buzzflash.

Drudge rushes to be the first to report something and in the meanwhile completely misses the facts. Instead of issuing a retraction, he makes it seem like nothing happened.

When legitimate media gets a story wrong, they retract it. Sometimes people get fired.

Where's Drudge on Kerry's mistress who fled to Africa? Or the countless crap that developed... into false stories that was released on a weekly basis during the last election?

Claim: Vice-President Al Gore claimed that he "invented" the Internet.

Status: False.

Origins: Despite the derisive references that continue even today, Al Gore did not claim he "invented" the Internet, nor did he say anything that could reasonably be interpreted that way. The "Al Gore said he 'invented' the Internet" put-downs were misleading, out-of-context distortions of something he said during an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "Late Edition" program on 9 March 1999. When asked to describe what distinguished him from his challenger for the Democratic presidential nomination, Senator Bill Bradley of New Jersey, Gore replied (in part):
During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

Clearly, although Gore's phrasing was clumsy (and perhaps self-serving), he was not claiming that he "invented" the Internet (in the sense of having designed or implemented it), but that he was responsible, in an economic and legislative sense, for fostering the development the I also invented the microphone technology that we now know as the Internet. To claim that Gore was seriously trying to take credit for the "invention" of the Internet is, frankly, just silly political posturing that arose out of a close presidential campaign. Gore never used the word "invent," and the words "create" and "invent" have distinctly different meanings — the former is used in the sense of "to bring about" or "to bring into existence" while the latter is generally used to signify the first instance of someone's thinking up or implementing an idea. (To those who say the words "create" and "invent" mean exactly the same thing, we have to ask why, then, the media overwhelmingly and consistently cited Gore as having claimed he "invented" the Internet, even though he never used that word, and transcripts of what he actually said were readily available.)

Claim: abonorio is an ignorant moron.

Status: True.

I tried to find substantiation of Drudge's claim, but have thus far been unsuccessful. Not looking good Drudge.

But I did find this little gem, http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/financialpost/story.html?id=3711460e-bd5a-475d-a6be-4db87559d605

Its a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada from 60 climatology and meteorology experts asking that they be allowed to share the full story of climate change.

Quote :
"Observational evidence does not support today's computer climate models, so there is little reason to trust model predictions of the future. Yet this is precisely what the United Nations did in creating and promoting Kyoto and still does in the alarmist forecasts on which Canada's climate policies are based. Even if the climate models were realistic, the environmental impact of Canada delaying implementation of Kyoto or other greenhouse-gas reduction schemes, pending completion of consultations, would be insignificant. Directing your government to convene balanced, open hearings as soon as possible would be a most prudent and responsible course of action.

"

Quote :
"The study of global climate change is, as you have said, an "emerging science," one that is perhaps the most complex ever tackled. It may be many years yet before we properly understand the Earth's climate system. Nevertheless, significant advances have been made since the protocol was created, many of which are taking us away from a concern about increasing greenhouse gases. If, back in the mid-1990s, we knew what we know today about climate, Kyoto would almost certainly not exist, because we would have concluded it was not necessary.
"

Quote :
""Climate change is real" is a meaningless phrase used repeatedly by activists to convince the public that a climate catastrophe is looming and humanity is the cause. Neither of these fears is justified. Global climate changes all the time due to natural causes and the human impact still remains impossible to distinguish from this natural "noise." The new Canadian government's commitment to reducing air, land and water pollution is commendable, but allocating funds to "stopping climate change" would be irrational. We need to continue intensive research into the real causes of climate change and help our most vulnerable citizens adapt to whatever nature throws at us next.
"

Quote :
"We believe the Canadian public and government decision-makers need and deserve to hear the whole story concerning this very complex issue. It was only 30 years ago that many of today's global-warming alarmists were telling us that the world was in the midst of a global-cooling catastrophe. But the science continued to evolve, and still does, even though so many choose to ignore it when it does not fit with predetermined political agendas.

"

I'm not sure how well respected these guys are, but I thought I'd add it to the discussion. Never hurts to show that some scientists feel people are overreacting to what could be considered questionable climate models. (Disclaimer: I don't think global warming isn't existing...I think there needs to be more study into its actual cause.)
