My roommate was on his way to Bear Rock Cafe (Crossroads) this morning...left from Lake Wheeler Rd. I havent seen him since, and heard from my other roommate that he was in an accident. He was on his blue suzuki motorcycle.

^Nah, he wasnt the type to show off...he's the least likely person to do something like that..honestly. It was a 250 i believe...nothing too fast either.

damn...just found out some info...he was on the Crossroads Exit ramp coming from the beltline/US1 and got hit by a car and flipped OVER the guardrail onto the highway below. He'll be ok though.

how many hundreds of miles was he going and how many cars did he weave around (or lane split)

how'd he approach the exit ramp - most crotch rockets will fly down the shoulder to get onto the exit lane

this would fit perfectly with being hit by a car who took the exit lane properly, without expecting a maniac to come screaming towards them on the shoulder

I wish this isn't how asshole bikers rode, but it is.

dude, i'm telling you...he JUST got his license...so he was Mr. Super Cautious when he was riding. He told me he was afraid of getting hit, so he signaled WAY early and tried to make sure cars saw him before he switched any lanes.

So I HIGHLY doubt he was doing ANY riding on the shoulder.

He said it was a 250... That means it's not a GSX-R, so he doesn't get the "I'm an idiot douchebag on a cookie cutter bike" stereotype.

"i have a hard time giving a suzuki rider the benefit of the doubt"

maybe thats the reason ASSHOLES pull out in front of me and cut me off when I'm on my bike even though I always obey all the traffic laws and don't do stupid shit while riding. truth is, a lot of the hard riding you see guys doin is much safer then riding around behind assholes like Excoriator who obviously don't give a damn if they cut off a guy on a bike and seriously injure or kill him.... safer to drive hard and defensively and just stay ahead

I hope this guy is ok!

i'm always very careful when i see bikers - they are extremely unpredictable

and to answer your assertion, no, it is not safe to speed 100+ mph through thick traffic, splitting lanes, flying down the shoulder, and weaving around cars.

but good try at rationalization. you keep pulling that shit - see how far it takes you

nowhere in my response did I say speeding through traffic at 100+ mph was safe, but good try and putting words in my mouth... i did say, however, that hard riding is often safer then riding behind assholes who don't watch where they're going and think that just b/c there car weighs more then your bike they have priority of the road.... and although some bikers may be unpredictable, the percentage of unpredictable drivers is way higher in cars. pretty much everybody who rides a bike has already mastered the concept of driving and obeying traffic laws in a car, whereas many of the dumbasses who are out on the roads driving have not

lol sounds like i struck a nerve.

I stand by what I said - and you getting all defensive over how its ok to "ride hard" is only proving my point.

yeah you did strike a nerve b/c i'm tired of assholes cutting me off in traffic and pulling out in front of me putting my life in serious danger, and the fact that you stated "college kid on a suzuki... i'm betting he deserved whatever injuries he got" gave me a pretty good idea that you are exactly the kind of asshole i'm talking about!

you can infer whatever you want from what I said, but you're the one that outright claimed to be a dangerous driver:

apparently YOU can't answer the question, i never said i drive dangerously, you said that... and this guy is wandering how obeying traffic laws is driving dangerously, i say it isn't... apprently you have another opinion of it

as a motorcycle rider myself, I hope he's ok. What really scares me is that I know a friend who just got a blue 250, and I hope it wasn't him.

And for the record, the vast majority of motorcycle/car accidents is the car driver's fault.

Also, the first 6 months, and 1-2 year period are the most dangerous for bike riders.

i'd like to see what those stats look like when you divide harley and other classic motorcycles from crotch-rockets

Definitely the truth. I was riding along on 70 one evening and I was in the left lane gradually coming up beside a truck to my right. All of a sudden a swarm of riders approach me in the right lane. A few of them squeezed through right before I caught the truck beside me. I then proceeded to back off and I motioned with my arm for the rest of them to come around me. They got around and the next light caught us and one of the dudes in the back flipped me off, even though I had backed off and motioned for them to go around.

That's a dicksmack generalization if I ever heard one. You need to include EVERYBODY on the road if you're gonna generalize. I would say both car and motorcycle categories have more than a generous helping of shitheads.

Just like I see stupid and irresponsible folks in cars, I see stupid and irresponsible folks on bikes.

I drive defensively when I'm in my truck, and I ride defensively when I'm on a bike...because you never know what the other driver(s) is/are gonna do.

I will say this: motorcycles, for the most part, ARE largely ignored by most car drivers on the road. Other motorists are a motorcyclist's biggest threat. I've been riding for more than 16 years, and have had several friends who are excellent (and responsible) riders have serious accidents resulting from a car driver's negligence. One has four pins in his lower leg, another has a titanium rod in his femur.

yes, motorcycles are harder to see.

so all things being equal (including driving skill) you'd expect that they'd have a higher frequency of accidents.

I'd still be interested to see what the stats are on accidents w/ crotch-rockets vs. accidents with cruising bikes like harleys and shit.

i bet the fault of the biker sky-rockets with the asian bikes

I've never seen a biker do this.

In fact, it's usually clueless people on there cellphones that I see cut off the bikers, more than the bikers doing something offensive to the drivers.
