You know the democrats are gonna fail again - i mean, sure the republicans won't hold as big of a seat advantage in the two houses, but I must say that this Foley debacle may actually turn out to be blessing in disguise... Will anyone at all ever take the democrat party seriously when they lose again this round?

George Will actually agrees with my point. He's got an editorial in today's washingtonpost discussing this very real possiblity:

I wouldn't disagree with his statement.

It takes multiple parties to shit up a thread, having the title say "When the Democrats fail" as opposed "If the Democrats fail" isn't doing your part to keep this section clean of the riff raff. Here's to hoping that no one "takes the bait" in this thread.

I tend to agree, as much as the republicans mess things up, if the liberals can't take over this time they need to seriously consider major reforms


then again, if the repubs lose, they will probably reform and become more centered than they have ever been in modern times


but the left seems to keep going further left, alienating losts of voters...which could hurt them this time around also

When democrates fail to take back congress in november, the one main thing that i am worried about is that Republicans will continue to be absolute morons and not promote a conservative agenda. the good thing about republicans losing in november would be that they would know that the republican base is really tired of thier crap. thats probably my biggest concern with two more years of a republican majority.

In 2000, I was thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail southbound from Maine to Georgia when all the election shit went down. I'll never forget staying up till 4 on the backporch of somebody's vacation cabin while I listened to the return and ensuing clusterfuck.

If the Foley episode determines the total outcome of this election and the makeup of America's primary political body -- then that is no reflection on Republicans or Democrats. It's just sad.

Seriously -- Foley is one man. Yes, the House leadership likely fouled up. Yes, they handled the post-media-frenzy badly. Yes, Foley was obviously a cancer on their political presence.

But ultimately, one man shouldn't decide in any way the fundamental divides in American society between left and right, taxation and economic freedom, peace and war.

So -- George Will is wrong. And the Foley situation is occupying way too much airtime a month before elections, considering what is at stake.

George Will didn't say that the republicans deserved to lose, just that there is no better situation for the democrats right now and if they can't capitalize on it, then they're chopped liver.
