So I'm planning to go re-up with Verizon Wireless tomorrow, and ditch this really crappy-ass LG phone. What phones would you guys recommend from their current line-up? I don't look at cell phones a lot, and I'd like to hear some different experiences with their recent models.
I'm specifically looking at phones that offer bluetooth capability. Thanks! 10/7/2006 10:20:26 PM |

I've had nothing but problems with motorolas either their keys break, they have crappy volume control or the battery never holds charge and I switched back to LG and won't go back.

What LG phone do you have currently?
I can give you several suggestions of pretty good phones in different makes.
LG 8300: Probably the cheapest phone you can get that can play music really good, record 1 hour of video, 1.3 meg. camera, etc. I rock this phone myself.
LG Chocolate: Does all the stuff the 8300 can, but in a much slicker case. They have updated them now so they DO have speakerphone. This was an issue at first, but has been resolved.
LG 9800: If you like to text a lot, this is the best phone. But it is bigger than many of the other phones, so pass it up if you don't like that.
KRZR: This looks like a pretty damn good phone. Just got me one Thursday. Its polished case finish just about glows and its quite a bit thinner and not as heavy as the regular Razor phone. The screens are a bit smaller than what you get on the real Razor though, so just make sure that they would be big enough for you. Other than that, I think I might be getting one of these phones for my wife. 10/8/2006 9:49:18 AM |

I've currently got an LG VX-7000, which was quite possibly the worst purchase I've ever made. No speakerphone, mediocre features, and now the damn antenna won't stay screwed in.
What is the battery life supposed to be on these newer Razr and Krzr models? 10/8/2006 10:35:06 AM |

According to the specs it can go 250 minutes talk time or 440 hours of standby, which is better than what my phone does by 20-30 minutes. 10/8/2006 10:57:42 AM |

Have you been using any Bluetooth accessories with your KRZR yet? I've seen my new phone twice ignore me when I've attempted to open the Bluetooth menu under Settings. 10/8/2006 9:04:22 PM |

bluetooth w/ vzw is a joke. omly thing that works is headsets for the most part. i have a samsung a990 whick i'm liking a lot. the camera is great and battery is good for like two days. 10/8/2006 9:23:28 PM |

i know that they specifically disable the file transfer features on their phones, but that's not a big deal for me. i was mainly just noticing that the Bluetooth menu selection was acting a little flaky for me. The KRZR is apparenly new, so I'm not sure if this is just me, or if it's a problem with this phone or firmware. 10/8/2006 10:46:56 PM |

teh KRZR is thicker than the RAZR
And it's very possible that your phone has issues, check out howardforums.com if you haven't already 10/9/2006 12:26:22 AM |

I haven't played with the krzr but if it has that ugly verizon wireless interface, I have no interest! Also, I played around with the LG Chocolate, and that thing is a joke. The controls are not very intuitive. It seems all VZW phones have that interface...so I would go with a Samsung. I have always had good luck with them. 10/9/2006 1:54:06 AM |

^^They are thicker, but its only a 3 mm difference, so its barely even visible even with the phones side by side, which I have right this second. Exact dimensions:
KRZR: 103x44x17 mm & 102 grams weight RAZR: 99x53x14 mm & 99 grams weight
Its interesting to note the KRZR is bigger in dimensions and weighs more, but it is made of a lot better materials, which probably lends itself to the heigher weight and it looks a lot smaller when you see it in person. 10/9/2006 8:50:19 AM |

dunno if it's still available but i have the motorola e815 and love this phone. comes with bluetooth and with some minor modifications to the firmware you can use bluetooth to send files to and from your phone, not just use bluetooth for the headset function. 10/9/2006 8:05:01 PM |
Nighthawk All American 19623 Posts user info edit post |
^You can do that to most V phones that have bluetooth.
BTW the e815 is now old as fuck/discontinued so you can only pick them up used. 10/9/2006 11:03:27 PM |

^^ and ^ yea you can unlock all the RAZR phones to enable full bluetooth as well.
And the KRZR doesn't look all that much smaller. It looks thicker and frankly not nearly as well designed as the RAZR. And it's using the same componentry as the gen2 RAZR, same software too. The only difference is the form factor. 10/10/2006 11:43:19 AM |

having held this KRZR in-hand now for a couple of days, i think it feels more solidly built. some of the razr's that i've picked up have felt very flimsy to me, even the 3rd gen ones that Verizon is selling now.
the phone seems a little bit sluggish to me. it doesn't seem to respond to key-presses as quickly as did my older LG 7000-whatever. maybe that's just the fact that i'm not used to this weird-ass Motorola keypad.
stangman: almost ALL verizon phones have that interface, so ya have to get used to it.
tyler: i did, admittedly, a half-assed search on hardwareforums.com and couldn't come up with anything at all related to the krzr. i did it at like 1am, which for an old guy like me is way too late on a school night. 10/10/2006 8:34:22 PM |

Yea get used to the sluggish response. It's an inherent problem with ALL Motorola Verizon phones. 10/10/2006 8:48:32 PM |

So, if I want a phone that has a camera, and can have mp3/wma music tranferred to the phone, and played as an mp3 player, and using those tones as a ringtone, what phone would be the best?
I really don't care about internet, text messaging, checking email, downloading videos and games, or any of that.
Also, I've read reviews and what yall have said seems that there are restrictions on most of the phone...can that be "unlocked"? 11/15/2006 4:38:12 PM |

Id go with the KRZR. I have never used it but its almost exactly like my v3m, but fixes the some of the shit that pisses me off (like being able to control music when phone is closed).
razr series for verizon is very hackable, which is a must cuz verizon cripples it so damn much. I have razr v3m and have not had any problems and would pick same phone again (well id get the krzr....same shit) 11/15/2006 5:01:44 PM |

my dad just got the LG VX8600
i just got LG VX8300
both are about the same phone, the 8600 thinner, closer to a razr, but you have to see if the price difference makes enough difference.
i love the 8300 so far tho - it has everything, camera, mp3 player, video, etc etc 12/31/2006 1:32:12 AM |

i just got a chocolate (vx8500).. does anyone have the USB cord for it? And if so, can I borrow it?
I don't want to shell out $30 for a music kit, when all I really need is the cord. I just want to use it once so I can dump a load of songs on there. 1/16/2007 2:18:33 PM |

i got the enV for xmas - thing kicks ass. highly recommended if you text a lot. it's thinner and smaller than my old vx8000, has a 2MP camera (with a lens cover...might not seem like much, but i think it's a great addition), microSD, bluetooth, etc. 1/16/2007 2:21:45 PM |

i hope you have a microSD card... i dont think it will hold much w/out one
if your compy has bluetooth you should be able to connect it and transfer songs that way too1/16/2007 2:35:18 PM |

Razor is the best way to go. You get more bang for your buck. I purchased mine when they were like 200$ with a rebate of 50$. Now they're like 50 bucks. 1/17/2007 1:50:47 AM |
