We really do need to get rid of this redneck NC State farmer tobacco chewing image, and embrace a Tarheel liberal arts homosexual image. I mean who cares about farmers? I for one don't eat food so I don't care about agriculture. I would rather be a biased newspaper reporter than grow something vital to human beings' survival. I mean really... 10/18/2006 12:45:23 PM |

lol im sick of the farmer image. do we even have a big farm school anymore? i know alot of people misconcept the vet school as a farm but this is an engineering computer science and hitech textiles school now. 10/18/2006 12:53:31 PM |

Dept. of Agriculture and Life Sciences is the second largest school at NCSU next to engineering, and yes we do have a large Ag program, a 4 yr and a 2 yr program, which is one of the largest in the southeast 10/18/2006 1:15:22 PM |

Yeah but CALS also includes Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology, Entomology, Environmental and Molecular Toxicology, Food Science (which is the study and development of foods, not really an agriculture discipline), Genetics (which is a minor program, that will probably be a major in the upcoming years), and some others. Don't make it out like everyone that's in CALS is a agricutural major. One reason why CALS is so big is because of the biology focused type majors that are incorporated in that college. But yeah we do have a large Ag focus here at State.

but doesnt alot of other stuff fall into life sciences. such as prevet(dont we have one of the largest vet shcools?) and any kind of anatomy zooology biology.
engineering is just engineering. textiles is just textiles. cals is agricultuRE AND LIFE SCIENCES... 10/18/2006 1:20:34 PM |

^^and number of advisors gives you a good idea of how many students each one has. soil science has 1 advisor. crop science has 6. the rest of agriculture majors have about 13 combined.
biological engineering alone has about 15. there are about 15 pre med and pre vet. the rest of the department has at least 50 other advisors.
i win

only 133 students got degrees in textiles last year and 102 in vet school last year. That includes bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees. But yes Engineering is first and I would say things that deal with agriculture are second. 10/18/2006 1:29:42 PM |

I'd say that after engineering, the second most type of major that we graduate here at State is just a plain old science major. I mean think about how many programs alone we have that are just basic science majors and how big they are. Biological Sciences (these people are everywhere), Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Entomology, Food Science, Marine Earth and Atmoshperic Sciences, etc. 10/18/2006 1:41:04 PM |

Yes, and by specifying bachelor degrees, it should be clear that I am looking at the second table on that page. Which, is pretty clear if you know how to read a table. 10/18/2006 1:48:07 PM |

haha, what an idiot. You can put all of the UNC fans in Raleigh and they'll STILL be outnumbered. NCSU is the only school that matters in Wake county, period. Its not our fault that Chapel Hill has nothing except gangs of John Mark Karrs running around.10/18/2006 2:16:02 PM |

And BE doesn't graduate many people.
I think there were maybe 60 or so of us, tops, in my class...and the majority of those were BMEs.
Now that BME is a completely separate major, I'd bet the number of people in BE has dropped significantly.10/18/2006 6:02:37 PM |
