For those of you interested in this, or who heard Lee Fowler speak this past Monday about how NCSU was right on par with other ACC teams.
http://www.hokietickets.com/lottery/allotments.html
Quick Summary:
Out of the 12 ACC teams, NCSU's total student ticket allotment of 9,000 tickets is 7th in the Conference. However, the 5 schools with few total tickets (BC, Miami, Duke, WF, and GT) all have significantly lower total enrollments.
Out of the 12 ACC teams, NCSU's percentage of students tickets offered to total student enrollment is dead last. At 30%, NCSU's closest competitor was Maryland at 33%. The other schools range from 42% to 77%.
By combining these two statistics, NCSU ranks last overall on student ticket allotment. First was Virginia Tech, followed by UNC and Florida State.
For comparison purposes, UNC (similar stadium size and student enrollment) offers 14,000 student tickets, which gives tickets to over 52% of their student body.

Another thing to consider: Blacksburg, VA where VTech is located has a population of just under 40,000. It appears to be a true college town. Roanoke, which is an hour east, has a population of about 93,000. And Richmond has just over 190,000 but is 4.5 hours east.
In contrast, Raleigh has a population of 276,000 easily within thirty minutes of driving for alums and spectators (though on game-days one would wonder with the traffic...). Lane Stadium in VirginiaTech holds 52,000 people, while Carter-Finley holds approximately 60,000.
So, as the other above wisely observed -- solely looking at # of tickets available to students doesn't give you the complete picture. 10/22/2006 12:24:15 PM |

umm...Lane Stadium holds over 66,000, and Carter-Finley holds over 57,000.

don't pay attention to the capacity number for C-F at that site. look at the attendence number in the box score from previous games for the real number.

At Florida, I think there are about 27,000 tickets for students each game. However, UF's enrollment is nearing 50,000, and the stadium seats about 90,000, so that makes it a little more reasonable. 10/22/2006 5:12:49 PM |

I more often didn't get tix for the basketball games, although I missed out on a couple football games. Got sick of it and joined the Student Wolfpack Club before my junior year.
One factoid I remember reading elsewhere is that while the stadium's seating has increased over the past five years by around 7000 or so, the allocation for students has never gone up at all. Not surprising, college sports is all about the money and in 20 years I could see student seats becoming pay seats.

15% of the seats for students isn't bad. It is right in the middle of the pack. You can blame the university for growing so quickly on the other stat as looking bad.
Hell, maybe they would think about adding onto the stadium for more student tickets if the students actually got to the game on time. 10/23/2006 7:21:23 AM |
lahyde All American 3327 Posts user info edit post |
the simple fact is that even with the online system that you call claimed would make it too easy to get tickets for games, we only have a few students left without tickets on some games, and almost 92% of requests getting tickets for almost all games (those are last year's stats...i think this year is even better)...so, unless people actually start attending the games more, students don't actually need more tickets 10/23/2006 9:58:02 AM |

At Florida (about 10 years ago), our student tickets were ~$40 for the season (a student season ticket for 6-7 home games). Even though they were bought on a season basis, we still picked them up before each game, and had different seats each time. 10/23/2006 9:59:13 AM |

Does the stadium fill up every game? If it does why would they all of a sudden start handing out tickets to students that they could otherwise charge for? 10/23/2006 10:13:44 AM |

what are our athletic fees at? isn't it somewhere between $120-180? i count 50% of that fee towards football and the other 50% towards basketball cause those are the only two sports anyone cares about. so ncsu students pay $60-$90 a year for football, whether they want to or not.
theres no reason to be mad about paying that little to attend games until you consider the fact that the students are the heartbeat of the university and should be getting better treatment instead of being treated like second class fans.10/23/2006 11:19:06 AM |

this depends on how many more student tickets they gave out. even if they gave + 100 over current / it wouldnt make that big of deal. As we continue to add seats to stadium the AD needs to set aside more stundent tickets.10/23/2006 11:22:46 AM |

similar, but I don't think it will be connected to the existing second level, it will be a seperate section built over the NEZ, but lower than the Scoreboard. 10/24/2006 12:28:25 AM |
lahyde All American 3327 Posts user info edit post |
if they follow the plans, they will build luxury boxes on top of the concourse level, and then build more bleacher/stands on top of those (with a gap in the middle for the score board) 10/24/2006 12:35:38 AM |
Brass Monkey All American 13560 Posts user info edit post |
The scoreboard was designed though to be able to be moved if need be. Why not just extend the supports to elevate it above the stands?

Perhaps kind of like at Alabama and the way they did their recent expansion. Reminds me of the South Endzone of Lane Stadium and perhaps even TAMU's "The Zone".
Alabama's recent expansion of their NEZ.

A friend and former practice team member said there are plans for another tower on the other side as well as a second level on the score board side.
There in the plans. And there is probably enough money to do it anyway. Which means that the money is there, so its not an issue of alumni support. I mean look at all the construction the campus is doing anyway. Makes sense they already have money put aside for it. 10/24/2006 8:40:31 PM |
lahyde All American 3327 Posts user info edit post |
Actually, there isn't already money there for it. They had to take out a $20 million loan for the Red Zone, and they are on a spending freeze for at least the next 2 years. So, no, there is not enough demand or money right now to pay for any more additions. You can expect no more projects for at least 2-3 years. That much is reported in the annual report they publish, so it's public record 10/24/2006 8:44:15 PM |
