Can someone explain how to find the sample mean variance when the sample size, mean and population standard deviation are given?

Are you talking about #2?

If so, take the Population Variance and divide it by the Sample Size. That's it.

variance is the sum of the squared deviations

so with each sample, find the difference between it and the average

square all of those differences and add them up

One last thing, how about finding the variance of difference in sample means?
